Crossfit

Been a busy man of late - my mongboard usage has suffered dramatically!

Not been to the Hornbeam one for a while - work in Leeds City Centre now, get free gym with that and there's speedflex over the road when I feel like being shouted at for not trying hard enough.

But that one was really good, really friendly. Recommend it.

Hello Del, chap -

Long time no post etc - but thought I could chip in on this one.

I used to go to the one on Hornbeam Park when I worked down there, and I cannot recommend it highly enough: Sorted me right out after I snapped my achilles. A bit of lounging about after I got off crutches saw me become a bit of a porker, and they whipped me into the best shape of my life in about six months of going two or three times a week - and they really sorted me a load of workouts that would strengthen my Achilles without risking snapping it again.

Caveats:

1. They try pretty hard to sell you on the whole paleo thing - fine if you're into that, but you have to be fairly forceful in saying no, if you don't want that.

2. At that particular one, the fact it's the nearest Crossfit gym to the US Airbase means it's pretty full of back slapping, high fiving, gurning, 'way to hustle, Chuck' USAF types, wearing those grim Vibram five toed shoe things.

3. It's pretty basic, equipment wise - some ropes, pull up bars, sleds, tractor tyres, skipping ropes, weights - which means the cost feels quite high for some basic kit.

BUT - best thing I have ever done for getting/staying in shape.

Give it a whirl.

People who think they're better because they don't wear labels are just as much a set of dicks as people who think they're better because they do wear them.

See me for more life lessons.

Also, Superdry. Terrible.

Oi, I'd take issue with All Saints.

And you forgot Crocs, the surest sign of all.

That's the one, yep. Really good - the only downside is they try and sell you on their bullshit lifestyle/caveman diet nonsense, and shout at you when they catch you having a crafty smoke in their carpark on your lunchbreak.

But thanks to them, I'm bloody awesome at skipping!

It's really good - very basic, hardly any equipment - handful of rowing machines, ropes to climb, pull up bars, skipping ropes, kettle bells, weights, that sort of stuff.

But it's ridiculously effective - seen way more improvement in fitness from crossfit than I've ever got from 'regular' gym sessions. Sorted me right out after achilles snappage 18 months ago.

And talking 'funny', right?

Have you ever given Crossfit a whirl? There's a crossfit place down the road from Nuffield, next to the climbing place - to be honest, I go there more than I go to the gym - although it tends to be full of loud Americans from the air base.

I like a bit of Watching the Wheels, myself.

Although I think I'd go for Instant Karma, that's a banger. (And Merry Xmas, on a festive tip).

Instant Karma for me, please.

Going with the missus or 'The Lads'?

This will make all the difference to my suggestions.

You can have my second one, I don't think I could manage two.

I think the question is not really "why don't they have the word 'White' in them", it's more "Why do the MOBO's have the word Black in them?" And the answer is that it's used as a collective noun for a loose collective of musical styles from rap to hip hop to R n B" - although as Costa pointed out, if you took the Black Origins aspect to the nth degree, you'd be looking at pretty much everything bar classical music.

Certainly percieved 'white' music (I'm thinking indie-type bands with earnest faces and shit jumpers) is a derivative of rock n roll, which is very much music of black origins.

What music would you actually have in a 'music of white origin' awards ceremony?

Add Tevez to the list of players they're currently 'linked with'.

Vaz Te is a good shout though - he seems to have found his level in the Championship.

West Ham aren't thinking about 'will these players be good enough for the Premier', they're thinking 'will they get us back there, otherwise we are royally fooked'.

Music of black origins is ace.

Music of white origins is crap.

That's why.
