Is there any other country in the world whose home games are more like away games because thousands of fans born in the country support the opposition? To a certain extent, I could understand it in the 1960s and 70s when the Indians were recent immigrants or first generation Brits but they have been citizens here for several generations now. Yet nothing seems to make them happier than seeing England beaten. England cricket has been very welcoming to players with Indian heritage. There have been plenty of players with Indian ancestry selected over the years and we even made a player born in India captain of the England team for many years. In fact, only 5 players ever captained the England team for more test matches than Nasser Hussain. The Indian fans certainly put pressure on the England team and give India an advantage. So, perhaps they should have home and away sections at test matches, with the majority of tickets for home fans only, like they do at football? [Post edited 6 Sep 2021 14:52]
