Southampton boss Russell Martin told BBC Radio Solent:
"For 60-odd minutes I thought we were good. It was a really tight match. We played some amazing build-up, but it didn't come to enough.
"Their attackers were really ruthless and we were not.
"At the start of the second half we were so good, and were so on top and they scored against the run of play. And after that I did not like one bit what I saw from my team tonight.
Really?? why not come out and own up? You got it so badly wrong game after game that yet you thought we were "so good" what so good we lost 5 nil???

To win anything you need to end the season strongly and we have done the total opposite
Since we lost against Bristol city we have capitulated
And that is down to poor management |

He should have been subbed off for game management earlier, Wussell didn’t do that, we
Lose, Stuart gets injured and we lose our most creative player for the remainder of the season when we need our best makers AND he may never play for us again

Failure to convert chances and kill them off AGAIN
Our managers inability to MANAGE the game and change our tactics
We invite pressure again late in second half and concede two poor goals AGAIN
How can the same things happen week in week out??
Most important game of the season and we failed
Not looking forward to Tuesday with Vardys lot on a high
And no Stuey now

Did anyone read the brown nosing guff RM said about Jack and how great he is, how we have improved since his return in possession, how he and Downes swap positions brilliantly, how the Tony teams in the works can play with 4 centre backs etc etc how are build up play yesterday was world class because of Jack, how without Jack we struggle to penetrate the space, how he is an incredible footballer and should start each week

Well it took Wussell ages and it’s too late now but at last he has probably picked our strongest 11 bar Stuey

There is a lot wrong with our team selection right now and our manager is beginning to show signs of his stubborn ego taking control much like Ralph did by refusing to pick players and change tactics
But one common factor for years now is our marvellous club captain
He still seems to get a game and it’s no coincidence that the end of our unbeaten run (yes we did have one) and our subsequent poor form has come about whilst he has returned disrupting settled defence in front of a confidence lacking GK
He along with others is bang average and a team with regular average starters will not succeed

Well if he wasn’t leaving this summer he will be now
Consistently one of if not our best player the last two seasons, great going forward as well as defending yet our Manager sees fit to drop him for the biggest game of the season

Well right from the start there doubts if he really had what it takes to become a great manager
He has done well in parts this season but it’s also clear he just is a decent championship manager nothing more
The drastic drop off since the end of our unbeaten run, constant tinkering, the lack of a plan B, poor selection, poor subs, inability to beat poor teams at home, he has basically got us as far as his talent allows
Prepare for more of the same or worse next season |
