Hill: yes to Barnsley
Hill: yes to Barnsley
Tuesday, 31st May 2011 18:57 by Col

In an apparent u-turn, Rochdale boss Keith Hill will be named as the new boss of Barnsley F.C. on Wednesday.

It what has proved to be a hammer blow to all Dale supporters, a second approach from Barnsley has proved to satisfied the demands of Hill and Flicker and their four and a half year tenure at Spotland has come to an end.

Speculation will no doubt begin as to their replacements, but they leave Spotland having led Dale to the (equal) highest position in the club's history and it was inevitable that their success would see them move on to bigger things.

We would like to place on record at RochdaleAFC.com our thanks to Keith and Flicker for the best footballing years of our lives and wish them all the best in Yorkshire.<

Although agreeing that the Hill regime gave us much success and some great football I am unhappy about the way he has eventually left the club.
He obviously wanted away and in fact also applied for the Sheff U job which he didn't get.
We are all ambitious but perhaps he should have been more honest.........
My money would be on John Coleman from Accy.

agree with you geraldo the manner in which he did it stinks.Always saying in his interviews about honesty in football and how things should be done the right way well he certainly did'nt practice what he preached.

Good luck to them from me. Perhaps not the best departure but I won't hold that against them. Good luck. Look forward to our new manager.

Good luck to them both. They brought us good times when we were on the brink of non-league. Pity they have gone in such circumstances but no bitter feeling on my behalf either.

If true, very disappointed in the way he has conducted everything. Don't know who he will take with him beside Flicker but like to see Chris Beech and Tony Ellis be given a chance after the job they have done with the reserves and junors.

The last few years have been magnificent and Keith Hill is totally responsible for that. We all knew that like our best players, a higher placed club would one day come knocking and tempt our manager away. If it had been Preston back in January or Sheffield United now, I would have sent him my best. They are big clubs with great potential. Barnsley! Are you serious Keith? Their manager left because he had no support and what has changed so much in a week that has made you change your mind? I am disappointed, gutted and actually quite angry. I hope you have the same success as the last manager who walked out on us for Barnsley.

Go and look at the Barnsley website where there is an "open letter" from Mr Hill - he really does think he is Marineo and Fergie rolled into one.
As Dunphy says on the Dale website, he could not have left at a worse time - no goalie, our best player gone, no striker to speak of and Jonah a year older- Hill obviously got out whilst his cv is still unblemished.
Like Sussexdale I would have wished him all the best had he have gone to a decent club or even if he had taken the Barnsley job last week - but to try and pretend that he really wanted to stay at Dale stinks.A friend of mine told me at the end of last season that he had already sounded out his entire "circus" about moving with him was obviously right.

Whilst his no-yes move was a mess I don't think it right to judge him on this. The last 4 years + have been great. A trip to Wembly, another play off, a great promotion season, a fantastic first year in League 1. Has this been the best 4 years in the clubs history (probably). Not only has he got himself and Flicker a lot of praise the pair of them have moved this Club forward and Chris D had some well put points on this in his "Chaiman's statement". It's just a pity the town did not respond with their "bums on seats". So Craig goes Premier, the boss goes Championship and with all the "ex-files" successes surely now is the time to say "if you want to get on - come to Rochdale". Not many times we can say that about our home town, is it !!!

Fantastic manager and wish him all the best at Barnsley, will be remembered by me for the Southampton,MKDONS, Stockport, Boston, Northampton games etc. Deserves all the success he gets as a manager.
