Fun saga in the EFL trophy where either Swindon or Luton are due to play Plymouth at home next week but the EFL haven’t decided in the three weeks since Swindon won fielding an ineligible player who goes through. |

I think the theory, rightly or wrongly, is that Varane has a high ‘ceiling’ even if that often seems unlikely to be fulfilled. At 24 and still relatively new to English football he should logically be a much better (valuable) player in a year or two than he is now while Field’s value on the pitch and in the transfer market is at its peak or heading the other way. Tis the game model and the game model must be adhered to. |

I couldn’t tell you with any confidence who they’d be loaning him from. I assume he’s still Manchester City’s 12th choice. |

I don’t think it’s a case of not liking him. He’s played at least a part in 19 games but we know he has limitations and it’s probably more a case he wants to go somewhere he’ll start more and/or secure his longer term future.
Norwich would surprise me as he’d probably be going into a similar situation in terms of the playing time. |

Amazed you don’t see it in the Prem especially against the physically bigger sides.

I think Bennie was given instruction to play safe. Felt at times like he did so when he’d naturally have been more inclined to take it forwards and more than likely lose possession.
Not sure yet what the kid is good at with the ball but if he grafts like that it’ll do. |

That save from Rushworth in the first half was truly magnificent. Paddy Kenny v Yakubu. Every time I see him he’s their best player and it was always going to take something special to beat him. Badly let down by his defence. Hope Brighton give him a chance and he kicks on as I think he could be a future England keeper. |

Harsh I think. He won the free kick getting himself in between the ball and defender outside the corner of the box and was reffed to a different standard to the other players after that. Can accept the penalty not being given if the ref judges it as Smyth moving his leg into the defender to make the contact (not sure that was the case but in the moment it looked plausible) but the one at the end of the first half near the corner flag was pathetic refereeing. |

My view from the LL is never optimal but I wouldn’t have called it a 4-4-1-1. Obviously it’s all positive vibes and rightly so after this horrendous run but I thought Hayden was poor and that could be the better fit as a position for Edwards, who didn’t have a bad game at right-back by any means. |
