For me it wasn't so much as remembering him being better than he was , it was more to do with the fact that his purple patch coincided with the last time we actually looked a decent Premier League side...I think we were upto 10th after beating Spurs away 3-2 .Obviously this was a brief glory period before the rot set back in and why we are where we are now. |

He was before my time but his goalscoring record both with us and Spurs was phenomenal. RIP Martin. As you said Nick saintsplayers.co.uk is a brilliant website and a great source of info on every single ex saint. |

There was divided opinion on on Tall Paul. I liked him and really wanted him to stay for the Championship. Think he'd have been a real handful and scored loads but maybe he wanted out so fair enough. Don't think the fan base is divided on Downs though! |

Its almost as if these players put in a shift in those earlier games to make sure Tonda got the job . Once he was given his contract they could ...relax ...take it nice n easy. |

Last minute winner for them. Crisis club with no money ...still 4 points above us. Ipswich 11 points above us. Every season Ipswich and Leicester seem to be above us in whatever league we're in. Southampton FC . A club full of losers from top to bottom.. |

Mondays match review. 1. Bazunu not to blame. 2. The missing mythical leader at the back . 3. Ronnie Edwards Solves all our problems. |
 | Forum Reply | Where's Ronnie Edwards at 19:30 4 Jan 2026
Nobby , why are so obsessed with Stephens? Its a bit weird tbh. He didn't play today and if anyone thinks Edwards would improve us you must be mad. He was hopeless in the games he started. |

I wonder if the reality was Rohl took one look at our club and the owners and thought " no thanks" |

Like Mara's pass against Leeds , our Gavs save against Millwall will go down in folklore...along with that 22 game unbeaten run of course. !! |

Agreed , a new CB who's actually decent would be a massive bonus. I think the club were pinning their hopes on Harwood Bellis becoming the main man and he could still potentially become that. Unfortunately he still makes too many mistakes and looks reckless at times. We miss Bednarek imo. |

Its seems very strange to me that a Stats driven club like ours have persisted with Bazunu. He was close to bottom of the 24 keepers in the 23/24 Championship season for goals prevented and shots to saves ratio. This season he is 23rd out of 24 and 24th for the same stats . We need a plan B big striker as our crosses are easily dealt with and our midget firwards get bullied easily. When the opposition press us and we have to go long, we have no one to hold up the ball like Che Adams used to do. We also need a commanding CB who actually attacks the ball . Otherwise we'll become a midtable Championship side for many years, which seems likely under this ownership sadly. |

In the 23/24 season under Martin with the likes of Bednarek, KWP, Adams etc , after 23 games , the same amount we've played this season we were on 45 points. Compared to the 31 points we currently have. We'd be 2nd now with that amount. Each year Clown Republic diminish us further and further...as someone amusingly put it ..into a player trading and funfair business. |

I think he'll bring Quarshie back in for Stephens. I'd love us to try something different but I dont think he'll do that, possibly due to injuries to the right backs and a lack of a big man alternative up front. You feel bringing in Edwards as well would easily solve our current problems..I'd love this to be the case but if you look back the last time Edwards was in the team we lost 3 games on the trot . Bristol City away, Blackburn away and Preston at home. Whoever plays tonight or whatever formation I think we'll have a decent chance as Blues will come at us rather than our achillies heel of teams sitting back in numbers which we can't handle. |

No thanks. Walcott, Lallana, Romeu...all shot ..legs gone ....we need to learn from this and move on from sentimental thinking. When Cortese was running the show we were utterly ruthless and binned off players that were either old/not good enough for the relevant league we were in .. |

Fair enough Pat. Would love the club to show real ambition and bring in a quality CB, Keeper and big no 9 . Unfortunately clown republic seem hellbent on turning us into yet another run of the mill championship club. How far have we fallen since they've taken over. |
