I just had to google 'egalitarian' You are right mate it is. Double laid back too. My Mrs was just back in Blighty to see her Dad before he gets too bad with the big C. She couldn't believe how fast everyone drives back there. She was never a slow driver either. My mate used to call her Claire Scare when she was driving. Thinking about it thats why I picked up 4 speeding tickets in my first few years here. Two in the work truck and 2 in my car.
Almost an Adelaide Hoop myself. Back in the day my parents were all set to pack up the family and head upside down when there was an earthquake. My Mother was unaware this type of rock 'n' roll occurred anywhere but in 'the jungle', so....

Would that be the Newcastle (Oz) earthquake of '89? That's the only earthquake of note in recent history.
Not only are earthquakes extremely rare anywhere in Australia, Adelaide to Newcastle is about 1250 kms as the crow flies - about the distance of London to Vienna.
New Zealand, however, is geologically very interesting. Plenty of earthquakes and volcanoes in NZ.

Gawd no, quake would have occurred in the early 60's, not necessarily even in Adelaide, but it would have been on the UK TV as a large earthquake in Australia ....that would have been enough for Mother.
