Forward... on 14:54 - Dec 31 with 4047 views | MedwayR | Birch has never struck me as the coaching type, certainly not as anything more than the good cop type that the lads like but who doesn't actually contribute much to players development etc, just good for morale etc. Obviously that's just my impression having never seen him doing his job. Either way I still think we need a more experienced coach in our set-up.

Forward... on 15:52 - Dec 31 with 3969 views | Bakes | Yeah but he's a qpr fan, that's all that matters these days, he was coaching at a very average team in America and Holloway was a pundit but they love QPR so get them in.

Curtis Fleming isn't much more experienced than Bircham, I'm talking someone with a properly proven track record. I'm not going to pretend I know who but there must be someone out there that fits the bill.

Forward... on 09:51 - Jan 1 with 3676 views | dannyblue | Actually spent nye with someone who's in the game. He doesn't rate bircham as a coach. No sophistication or subtlety when it comes to the game or hard work or real desire to improve players. He said for bircham its all about bircham and whether he can make himself look good or get a good wisecrack out even if it's damaging to the subject/victim. Says he's lucky to have the job. Just reporting an opinion and don't know if it's valid. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Forward... on 10:09 - Jan 1 with 3620 views | bosh67 | We keep looking at the quality of the manager and the quality of the players, but the one big problem at the club is the quality of the coaching. I love Furs and I think Ramsey does a solid job with basics but the level of coaching throughout the club is very poor and Birch isn't really adding to it. Love the guy, total legend, but you only have to look at the results from the first team even over the ladies team and its pretty poor. That's not really all bad players, it's more like not quite up to it coaching. Instead of going mad spending money on players we should be spending money on top end young European coaches with new and better ideas and get the most out of what we have... and buy Ronaldo

Forward... on 11:04 - Jan 1 with 3497 views | rsonist | There are different types of coaches.... all can have a role to play in the right context. We keep panning players past and present for being gutless mercenaries when it goes wrong, JFH for having no charisma and devil and making HQ morguelike, well here's someone in to address all of that - just how you wanted. I never thought Birch was a particularly good footballer but we always played better with him in the side. If you want to dismiss all of that by calling him a glorified mascot then that's up to you, but it's one-sided negativity pathologically looking for anyone to blame in my view. (Especially after a win built on grinding it out FFS). You could instead say we might well need, have needed for a while in fact, a little bit of old wisdom and nous in a guiding role in the club. A McLaren, a Francis, a Jackett. You could say Birch and Ollie reiterate each other a bit and perhaps a different kind of voice would be good for the players to hear alongside them. Those would be reasonable suggestions. But I guess that doesn't give you the sad little rush and bit of attention you get up when you're up on the soapbox declaring from across the world that someone's "scratching a living bigstyle".

Forward... on 13:33 - Jan 1 with 3239 views | MedwayR | I've often wondered if we have a scouting network in place to identify and recruit good coaches, and if so how vast is this network. Also, not wishing to create a never ending cycle but who educates the coaches? Do we have scouts in Europe, South America etc observing best practice in other countries for us to adopt???

'I've often wondered if we have a scouting network in place to identify and recruit good coaches' That seems unlikely. 'Also, not wishing to create a never ending cycle but who educates the coaches? Do we have scouts in Europe, South America etc observing best practice in other countries for us to adopt???' Yes, who will coach the coaches?

Hartlepool ARE the Monkey Hangers hence their mascot being named H'angus The Monkey. Anyway didn't some bloke called Brian something or other come from Hartlepool once? [Post edited 1 Jan 2017 15:07]

The point has been made, remade and repeated not just here but one even pundits have chimed in. Despite Holloway knocking it down earlier, I think Kenny Jacket is a good shout and definitely there are others, not just Gerry and Wilkins who are good tacticians.no reason Birch shouldn't stay in the set up as well.

Guess the idea that you've spotted something that no-one else has is appealing. Probably why conspiracy theories get any traction despite lack of evidence.
