Clean sheets 06:47 - Apr 30 with 981 viewsDixie_CT

Not normally one for stats but that was our first clean sheet at home under Olly and his teams 3rd from 30 (the others being Reading & Leeds away) we've only 7 kept all season with 3 of those in August!

At the danger of stating the obvious, goals change games. Whilst I'm all for dynamic and exciting football that's full of flair, solid foundations are normally synonymous with succesful teams. I want my team to be succesful and entertain but in that order.

It's easy to point to defenders to defend but it's a whole team effort, requiring co-ordination and work rate. I just can't see our current management or players getting that right and fear another season of randomness. I think that a belief in a pre-season to get this right is clutching at straws as they've had since November to ask a change and the on performance couple with the stats speak for themselves.

Over to you Curtis Fleming.....

Bar one odd moment I thought Smithers showed every inch why he is a £10 million keeper

His save to his left at the end was phenomenal

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Smithies is a phenomenal keeper that is just going to get better over the next few seasons. He reminds me of Heaton at Burnley. Best keeper we've had since Seaman?

Two odd moments yesterday when he came to the edge of the box to claim a high ball but missed it, got disorientated but saved the shot by instinctively getting back into position and when he spilled that shot and it looked like spinning in but was cleared off the line.

The majority of keepers will always have times like that and often due to the outcomes of their bad choices, goals conceded, it will get massive scrutiny. If a striker missed a good chance, it doesn't get as much attention. If they don't make lots of rash decisions then they are playing at the top end of the game. Even then GK's like Lloris have their moments and he's superb.

Thing is, keepers are the last line of defence and all goals can be stopped at an earlier point of play. What's in front of Smithes needs to drastically improve.

Without Smithies we would have been dead and buried weeks ago. He's pretty much kept us in this league single-handedly. Can you imagine playing behind that defence? He must wake up in a cold sweat most Friday nights. No surprise he won every POTY on offer. I wonder if anyone else got a single vote?

He's the only genuine top quality player at the club. Easily good enough for the Premier League and will get International recognition when he's there.
