PPI deadline - question (non QPR) 13:40 - Aug 29 with 3047 viewsTonto

No I don't work for one of "those" companies... this is an honest question:

I have never knowingly taken out PPI. If I was ever offered it I always turned it down - I have worked for Local authorities most of my life so until recently I was always fairly secure, so never felt like I needed it.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean I didn't accidentally take it or unknowingly have it enforced on me. I sure as hell don't have any paper work on loans or credit cards going back beyond the last few years - as I paid them off I shredded the paperwork as it was not needed anymore (so I thought).

So the question is - is there a definitive way of finding out if I have got a claim going? Or do I have to go through on of "those" companies and subject myself to all that?

thanks in advance

I thought PPI was something you got through not wearing goggles at the swimming baths.

I used on those firms because i couldn't be bothered to handle admin which i hate at the best of times.

They so far have got me two refunds - one £3k and one for £4k for stuff dating back to the 90s (when my mantra seemed to be 'if you can't afford it, finance it'.

They're pretty good but charge 30% of the successful claim amount, which is hefty but i would never have got round doing it myself, so everyone wins i guess. I did precious little other than tell them my bank account details and all the addresses i have lived at for the past 25 years or so.

The cheques arrived with a few days of the claim being confirmed.

I did one myself (shock horror) with credit card protection my wife took out with a store card.

I let it run for almost a year but back in the 90's before thinking what a bunch of c&ap this and cancelling.

Got £980 back when PPI appeared and also Barclays sold me some personal identity protection which they actually said I had to have which I got refunded in full plus several years interest.

The credit card was a simple phone call but the other I had to write a long winded letter telling them how I had been lead to believe it was necessary for the type of account I had at the time
