Hmm, this is quickly unravelling from a bit embarrassing to a full blown scandal

Jewish Chronicle reporting that May was fully aware Patel had had meetings when she denied it

https://www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/no-10-knew-about-priti-patel-israel-meetings-

22,000 people online currently tracking her flight back from Nairobi

Think she's done for despite May being too weak to sack Johnson or Patel.

This one made me laugh out loud, from the BBC.

'Ms Patel, who is a long-standing supporter of Israel and a former vice-chairman of Conservative Friends of Israel, has admitted a "lack of precision" for suggesting last week that Boris Johnson knew about the trip, and that only two meetings had taken place when she attended 12.'

In old money that's called bllocks and constitutes a resigning matter.

There's been some real "how stupid do you think people are?" moments this week. Johnson of course, but Patel's 'fun for all the family' family holiday which includes 12 meetings with Israeli politicians, and then Davis' flip floopping from "we have 56 Brexit studies in excruciating detail" to "actually no such studies exist" when he's forced to reveal them.

Sadly, the answer is "quite stupid actually as it turns out". Because the way political debate works in this country and America these days is even more tribal, partisan and blinkered than football supporters. I mean, I cannot stand Manchester United, but I'm willing to concedce that Alex Ferguson was obviously fcking brilliant.

In politics at the moment you're either for or against Trump, you're Tory or Labour, and you're Brexit or Remain, and all your opinions must apparently be forced through that prism for fear of looking weak. So Patel clearly should resign, but if you're a Tory you back her and just start screaming about Corbyn and Hamas. Johnson, should also resign, but if you're Tory you just start screaming about Emily Thornberry and some poxy fcking flag in Rochester.

Nobody ever says "well I'm actually a Tory voter but this thing they've done is clearly wrong" or "I voted for Brexit but actually this is pretty bad news", or "I'm Labour but thi government policy is actually pretty good". Everybody just immediately retreats into trying to defend the indefensible, trying to find a way to turn it into an attack on the other side or trying to find a way to make it seem like Laura Kuennesberg made the whole thing up because she's terribly biased in favour of the right and left at the same time apparently.

Nobody resigns, nobody gets fired (although Patel surely will now), there's no accountability, nothing gets done, no proper debate, no meaningful political discourse, no nothing. Everybody just shouts and Tweets horrible stuff at each other while the whole country is going to sht.

Northern this a great piece of insight.

Sadly it appears that saving face, partisan battles and bloody minded pride trump what's actually in the majority's best interests.

It's badly damaging the UK and it needs to stop.

Not far off the mark. She might be sacked before she gets a chance to resign. As a minister, but not as an MP.

This is starting to look like the Tory party repeating many of the mistakes they made in 1995/6/7. Various scandals and resignations giving the public a sense that they really don't know what they are doing. Sill the Brexit talks recommence tomorrow so they get a chance to show a measure of competence.

Johnson's non apology and ranting partisan riposte made me stomach churn. I noted even key Tories turned on him. This isn't a party political issue - I very much doubt the Conservative government wants UK citizens to be abused overseas let alone due to the mistakes of the Foreign bloody Secretary. Yet he's there making it worse because he can't handle criticism. Won't even meet her family ffs. absolute bloody disgrace of a man

I think they were always all cnts but they've lost control of what the public knows; so where beforehand there was at least a pretense of principles and accountability, now there's more (albeit chaotic or unreliable) transparency, and a kind of battle between, on the one hand, real resulting accountability, and, on the other, blatant denial, obstructionism, "but crooked Hillary" what-aboutery and general cntery from all concerned.

We shall see which wins out. I think I prefer the big fck you to the weasel apology, loss of ministerial status for six months, and continuing status as MP.

Living in Switzerland I don't even know who the current Head of Government is. They're probably a cnt too but at least I can avoid seeing their face everywhere.

Often the case, Derby. In many countries. I can never understand the logic, though - if a politician is found to be deviant, dishonest, crooked, cowardly or treacherous they absolutely are not fit to be an Minister, but - ya - they're ok to be an MP.

If society deems a person can lose their entire career for asking someone out 'the wrong way' then that society gets the politicians it deserves.

It's becoming tit for tat (if I'm even allowed to say that these days) but what you're seeing is the Left undermining society as a whole. It's a plan and it's working.

First you question every British historical victory and every person representative of it going back hundreds of years, then you bring down the politicians, monarchy and commentators who represent it's modern day equivalent. Last but not least, you silence the man on the street. What better way to do that than cluster bomb every man as a potential rapist?

The Left are bringing us their very own form of Fundamentalism. It's very clever but we're sleep walking towards catastrophe.

Hi Steve

I was going to respond by asking for an example as I don't think that's what's actually ever happened but then I read the rest of your post and I'm geniunely taken aback that you think thats true and what's happening.

I'd say about 90% of all the women I know has been sexually harassed and assaulted, but sure, men not being able to ask out their co workers is undermining society.

Also I'm not sure how sexual harassment and colonialism being bad are linked but there we go

Also - the left! Dunno if you've noticed mate but we haven't had a left wing government in this country since generously the 1960s. All of the print media is either right wing or centerist. How exactly have we manage to destroy society whilst holding none of the lever of...oh my god why am I replying seriously. Have a good day Steve, take care of yourself

This is highly amusing stevec. A left wing conspiracy is to blame for Priti Patel's little jaunt in Israel and Boris Johnson's (life threatening) gaffes? Incredible.

Is Brexit part of the left's master plan as well then?
