Best bet for relegation 09:08 - Aug 3 with 5293 viewsplasmahoop

On sporting life. Com, we are the blokes advised best bet for relegation at 5 to 1, and also part of a 50 to 1 bet to be relegated with Bolton and Rotherham. What a cock jockey, he doesn't know what he's talking about

Relegation is definitely overstating things. The most negative I can get is 'ball achingly mediocre' and I don't even go that far very often.

Racing Post AND Football & Racing Outlook say the same too. These betting journo's obviously have a pre-season ritual of meeting in a room above a pub in South London. Getting fukkd and bombd on crack, cake, and light ale before making these addled predictions. I'm glad the 'experts' have us down to go down. We'll surprise them all this season.

Bring it on! YOOOOOOOO RRRRRRRRRRRRRsssssss !!!!!!!!

From a neutral point of view we probably do look favourites to go down... We've offloaded some experienced defenders and have purchased only 1 (relatively unknown) replacement , we have a very young squad, we dont have a 15 goal a season striker in the squad, we're in that last season of the parachute payments about to run out scenario.
If we finish in the same position as last season I will be happy!

Agree with the above, I am not sure why people get upset about it, after doing a quick google check most people have us to finish in bottom 5 for very valid reasons, No defenders could lose Freeman and Mass, No money Transfer ban etc etc

Sporting Index have us finishing 20th with 54.5 to 56.5 points on the spread . Thats looks more realistic to me than one of the favourites for relegation,

Personally I am hopeful that we can manage 12th place if things go our way, But we do need at least one CB in

I do not think we will go down. Anyone can beat anyone in the Championship. Last season many tipped Millwall to go down who finished just outside the play offs. Sunderland just relegated from the Premier League bottom and down to the league 1. I am optimistic currently (though may change if we got tonked 5-0 tomorrow).

The new BFG is an unknown quantity granted, but has played well and regularly for the last 3 seasons in Germany.

Hall IF he can stay fit is at least as good as Ned imo.

That midfield should know each other's game pretty well by now.

Eze, Smyth, the small kid from Belgium coming through.

No actual offers for anyone that we know of.

We do need another one at the back and another one up front, but I just don't see us as favourites to go down by any means.

I admire peoples confidence but let's take a look at some of the evidence.

We were lower mid table last season with an appalling away record and the squad for the coming season is considerably weaker. With days to go until the end of the transfer window we do not have adequate replacements for the players that have left and cannot sign anyone unless it's for a packet of cheeseballs come January. We also have a manger who has been sacked more times then Frank Spencer which includes being sacked twice from the same club on two occasions...

We are relying on young players with little experience at this level so I would say from the outset, we are in deep sh*t this season.

Of course it does happen that well organised teams of youngsters get relegated, but in a division with so many clubs in what looks like complete disarray I reckon we'll find a few lining up for the drop ahead of us. 12th-15th I reckon.

It’s just a value bet, not necessarily who that one person thinks will go.

Are we worthy of shorter odds than 5/1? Looking as objectively as possible, probably.

BFG is an unknown quantity but we’ll assume he’s decent without being brilliant. Even if he and Lynch stay fit, no one can be filled with confidence by any defence with Lynch.

I do think we’ll score enough though.

It's literally no different to what we've been saying on here all summer. It's probably not going to happen but it could plausibly go wrong meaning it a worthwhile bet to the punter looking for value in the market. Rotherham and Bolton would not be the best bet.

I think we will be in a relegation battle with a long slog of a winter , our defence is not very good at all , we need imo 3 players a CB, a RB and a striker , all of the clubs around us are doing much better transfer business , (especially Ipswich) Im concerened that we seem to be putting all eggs in the Trent Sainsbury capture rather than look at plan B, C or D , if Ned isn't fixed up with a club why not make him an offer to come back ?

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

We've got a great midfield (the best we've had in years IMO), two very dangerous attacking midfielders (Eze and Freeman), plus some kids who may well have great seasons (Smyth, Chair, Kakay).

But don't underestimate having a leaky defence and how that can f--k us. WIthout Furlong in the medium term, and only the BFG to replace three of our best defenders, plus the loss of Smithies, we look very very shaky at the back.

Could go either way, but with that defence as it stands and little chance of improving it in Jan we're going to be shipping goals regularly.

We've struggled for two seasons and have lost three of our best players. Our best hopes lie with promising but extremely inexperienced players.

Not rocket science is it.

Jeepers Paul (and toast) what a sad way to go into a new season I hope your life outside QPR is happier! And don't give me any of that' just being realistic' nonsense. The REALITY is, we have no idea how it will pan out. It MAY be tough going, it MAY end in relegation but we absolutely don't know. It may equally work out just fine, with a comfortable mid-table finish. I believe we will be more organised under McClaren. I believe we will gain more points on the road this season and hopefully our home form will hold up. There are perhaps ten teams that are obviously better than us (on paper) but in this mad division anybody can (and do) beat anybody. The key to surviving (or even better) in this league - in most leagues actually - is being organised, with everyone knowing their jobs and I believe that is one of McClaren's strength's. Let's enjoy it and let's not even attempt to assess it until at least November when we have 15 games under our belt.

At some point next week, we might need to seriously look at loans if this Aussie doesn't arrive soon enough. Not sure what his fitness is like, but at the very least, he's going to need time to bed in.

Still a few blokes out there that could probably do a job for us, and maybe even glad to as well. Doesn't seem Ned has a club yet, although he might well have shipped everything back up north. I know its been debated, but James Collins seems to remain available, albeit that some may feel there's a reason for that.

Not sure if the big clubs have any wunderkids we could get in? I'm sure the prospect of them being coached by McClaren has to have some appeal.

Ha.

Let's be honest here, anybody who didn't look at us as potential relegation candidates would lose their job as a pundit asap.

We've lost three of our best four players, probably have the youngest, least experienced squad in the league and new coaching staff.

That isn't to say i think we'll be relegated. We've some good young players and i think MaClaren is a pretty good fit for the job at hand. We can field two midfields. But a bad start and i'll be panicking quickly. It would be absurd not to look at us.

Surprised Ned hasn't found a club yet I wonder if it would be worthwhile offering a one year deal like Morrison at the Baggies ?

Im worried about lack of goals next season as well as letting in goals

Their job is to look for value in the market. Do I think Sheff Utd or Preston will win the league? No. But they're great value at 25/1 and 33/1 given their performances last season and strength of their team.

Teams like Rotherham, Bolton, Wigan etc are going to be short offs to go down. So they look for the value elsewhere and a team that's been firmly in the bottom half and conceding 70 goals a season for two years now is definitely that at 6/1 after losing its two best defenders and outstanding goalkeeper over the summer.

In summary, lump on!

Of course, the soppy sods will do something stupid and win the league at a canter and reach the FA cup fourth round to boot.

F.....s can’t be relied on for neesh.

i disagree that we have a weaker squad than last season.

Yes, we have lost experienced defenders & we will miss them.

However, at this time last season we did not have Smyth or Eze likely to play & BOS was a long way from starting (as was Furlong).

They are young & inexperienced, but they are fresh, confident & far better players than those they have taken the place of. At the moment our team will include five out of Scowen, Luongo, Freerman, Smyth, Eze & BOS. That is a hell of an improvement on what we've had since relegation. Add to that, Furlong & Manning will make many appearances & Hall may soon be back amongst us.

It is a long time since I've looked forward to watching us as much as these players excite me.

Half of our team have also played over 200 first team matches as professional's - Leistner, Lynch, Baptiste, Bidwell, Freeman, Scowen, Luongo & Smith.

It is the experienced players that need to perform! The youth will not let us down.

Maybe these betting establishments have us a good certainty so lots of people can lump money on and in fact they know (or are pretty sure) we won't go down so don't end up having to pay out.

Their job is to make money, not dish it out.
