Geoff Cameron on the Loftcast 07:38 - Nov 1 with 2792 viewslondonscottish

Really interesting interview with Geoff Cameron on the Loftcast this week.

Firstly he really knows his football.

And it's interesting to hear him talk about all the defensive & positioning work that SMC & co have been putting the squad through. About the the concept of being able to control a game with the ball and how to control it without (see Villa). About how he's played CB for Villa and in interationals and do knows what a CB needs from a holding mid.

Must admit I hadn't realised how key he was to recent performances until I finally made a couple of games last week. IMHO a great loan signing.

From what I read on social media at the time I think the Stoke fans would be surprised to hear it - honest clodhopper was the general consensus.

Dave Mc mentioned it during the summer when we were after the German fella at Brighton but think it's becoming clear that the club are really doing their due diligence on players and the characters they bring in now.

unlike in the uk where most players come up through club academies, most American footballers come through the US collegiate system. they don't get paid whilst in uni, have to go to class and get a degree and maintain academic criteria to keep their athletic scholarships. they're usually 20-21 when they become professionals and starting making money.. Cameron, Yedlin, tim ream, etc all followed this path... its why so many American footballers are often much more eloquent and thoughtful than your average footballer

Our transfer window after the close of the transfer window was outstanding. Cameron, wells, rangel and hemed. Its changed our season. Incredible good work done in the background and Lee Hoos saying how the finances etc needed to be balanced etc and our embargo - well those four men coming in in that way - way beyond what any of us could have hoped for. A few leaders in personality terms and as said previously we looking as much at personalities etc and players that work hard and follow the team ethic - great work obviously done behind the scenes. The complete opposite approach to when we throwing money away like confetti over many prima donnas who had previously shown their worth by playing for the BIG clubs. Good work done in the background by the QPR team....I hope we can extend all their contracts all being well.

He came across really well.

Liked what he was saying about because he has played as a centre back, he knows what the centre backs want in a defensive midfielder, and so far, at this level he seems to be doing a great job at that.

...and with the drinking age of 21 quite rigidly enforced, University must be a slightly different experience in the states.

All it means is there's a LOT of underage drinking done at American universities.

Listened to this tonight...

Very telling Cameron talking about the bad eggs at Stoke whilst he was there (probably completely unaware of the same story that preceded him here).

Interesting that McClaren tried to sign him before.

Seems tactically aware talking about him and Mass making a call during the Wednesday game to get someone to drop and sit on Bannan.

I think Evil Les has to take some credit for that.

Swings and roundabouts really though isn't it.

Wasn't a year ago that Penrice and Ollie were getting the credit for good honest 'umble lads like Scowen and Freeman and Les the stick for continental video scouted ponces of the JFH era like Yeni, Borysiuk etc.

Then the regs were cross about Ollie and wanted McClaren out so Les - now featuring on a definitely 100% not clueless FA shortlist along with Mike Rigg - became the master strategist, the Penrice whisperer that management were holding to ransom with their evil loans etc.

The reality - who knows. I expect they all have a bit of input here and there.

Well on the specific point about player character and behaviour it's something Ferdinand has been massive on since he arrived here, and saw as a big problem before he arrived.
