Watched it yesterday and have to agree, I'm not normally a film fan but that was worth the numb bum, brilliant film

Critics not keen on it - should be good then !

I thought it was brilliant too. Not sure why the critics weren't keen. It could be so easy to do something like that badly, but they got it right

Only dawned on me recently that this '74 b-side (which perplexed me at the time) is really a one minute forty second sketch for Bohemian Rhapsody.

I've heard the film is good too.

Watched it tonight, I thought they did an outstanding job with it. From start to finish it was an amazing watch. Rami Malek, how good an actor is he? It's the music though which makes it, and feeling it all shaking your seat in the cinema was just something else. This film has been in the pipe line for years now and certainly had its problems but it's been well worth the wait. I'm so glad they got this right in every way.

Saw it Saturday, loved it, showing my age first saw them in concert at Wembley arena in 1974, don’t think there will ever be a better live performance than Live aid.

Haven't seen it, but having read some troubling inaccuracies (a director who is alleged to have assaulted young men makes his depiction of some of Freddie's advances a bit creepy and deeply unfair on the man - and worst of all changing the timeline of his AIDS diagnosis to make it the culmination of the plot and the reason he does Live Aid rather than 2 years later as in reality) that make me want to skip it tbh.

It was always going to be a commercial success though wasn't it? People packed out We Will Rock You for nigh on two decades despite it being absolute gut rot garbage

I know two people who worked on that and the director had pretty much finished but scarpered (alleged sacking but he was a producer so sacked himself) as he was in total fear of getting meetood at any moment- Dexter Fletcher only came in for a few days and did post production.

Being a massive Queen fan and remembering their Live Aid performance as one of the best gigs I had seen (even though I watched it on TV), I was highly sceptical about this film. But I actually really enjoyed it. You're right in that there are some inaccuracies in timeline and some other factual parts - John Reid gets fired in the movie, when really his contract with the band just ran out. But a bit of poetic license didn't really ruin it for me. I guess that's the same for any movie based on a true story.

A lot of the critics didn't like it because they felt it glossed over Freddie's sexuality, but in my mind this wasn't meant to be a Mercury biopic, more a celebration of the band and the music. I think it portrays well how close-knit the band were. I guess having May and Taylor involved gave it that feel of authenticity to large parts of the movie.

I must say Rami Malek was fantastic and he really had Freddie's mannerisms and stage movements down to a tee, although his speech wasn't entirely accurate.. I think the May character was the closest in that regard.

Its a film at the end of the day so enjoy it for what it is.
It is widely speculated that he found out he was HIV positive in 1987 and the rest of Queen were probably told by Freddie around the same time but he was definitly suffering from various health anomilies prior to Live Aid The account of his throat before the show was true, he was advised by doctors not to go ahead with it.
They stopped doing live shows after Nebworth in the 1986 Magic tour and Roger Taylor speculated in the Days of our lives doc that he suspects Freddie knew then that he wasn't well.

Overall I though it was a great tribute to the man, the band and their timeless music. Personally I thought their 70s stuff up until Jazz was the greatest. It went a bit w@nky in the 80s as did a lot of classic Rock. Keyboards ruined it.

What I find amazing is he was near death and had to have breather between takes.

But still sounded like this. Incredible.

Possibly the last song he ever recorded. The music was written after he'd laid the vocals track. He never finished it either as you can hear Brian May had to sing the last verse. Very sad but incredible that even in his final few weeks he was able to nail his vocal.

Saw the film last night. Great entertainment and kept me awake for 2+ hours - which is usually the acid test. Couldn't care less about any discrepancies - just enjoyed it for what it was.

Saw a fantastic documentary a few years back on the making in Switzerland of their final album (Made In Heaven). Would love to find that again if anyone has a link or can remember the name

Haha yes agreed, 2hr 15 mins and at no point did I drop off, feel the need to look at my watch or think the film was going on just for the sake of it!

Strange how critics didn't think it covered his sexuality when it blatantly did (but maybe not as much as they'd like) but as mentioned this is a Queen film not a Freddie Mercury film.

It's a film that will keep the music of Queen in the public eye and help younger people discover their vast back catalogue.

The fact that it's a 12A certificate, meant it was never going to be a true re-telling of Freddie' life over 15 years and trying to cram it into 2 hours and 15 minutes meant innacuracies were going to happen.

The general public love it for what it is, but those that have worked with or for the band, generally don't.

The 'real' story about Freddie and Queen is still out there.......but probably nevr to be told.

'I knw I ain't doing much........but doing nothing means a lot to me.'
