Hilarious that after screaming for VAR he lost due to VAR going against him. His complaint is when you slow it down handballs are more obvious to spot which is sort of the point of VAR

He just can't catch a break at the moment. Which is a real shame.

I laughed out loud at his post-match interview with Sky Sports when his response to a question about his job was the media have a "an agenda and a narrative" suggesting he will be gone soon.
Crikey! He's had it so easy in the press room for years now and on MOTD Ian Wright said he felt sorry for Hughes.

Wish I could be like David Watts

There has to come a time when players & managers just have to accept decisions.

If all VAR does is mean people will now crtique VAR rather than the ref then nothing has improved, other than highlighting what a tw@t Hughes is.

I don't think there's a manager in recent history who's had an easier ride from the press. If he was not British, he'd have been absolutely hammered.
I'm desperate for him to keep his job - I want him to get that relegation on his cv.

Bare bones.

Southampton's next 4 games include Manchester United, Arsenal and Spurs. If they lose to Cardiff (one of the 4 games) he's a gonner.

He's an absolute weapon. How he keeps getting these jobs is an utter mystery. Although, that said, I guess it just shows how utterly clueless the people running football clubs are. It's like giving some rich bloke a surgeon's scalpel and expecting him to be good at open heart surgery just because he's made a few quid doing something else. A case of idiots employing idiots.

Of course it won't stop managers and players moaning, nor will it mean there are no wrong decisions - anyone who thinks otherwise is either called Gary Linekar or living in dream land.

Wonder what Charlie thought of the use of VAR?

Superb article and tbf (although I hate to be) he won't be the only PL manager moaning about VAR decisions next season.

Same old arguments, just add in delays to the game

Brilliant!

He’s the jammiest manager in football right now. Ruins a club and then gets employed by another Prem club a few months later... it simply doesn’t make sense.
Swansea were so dog sh!t last season that the Saints scraped survival. Since then their record has been terrible. I wanted Southampton to go down last season and wanted them to get QPR early enough in the season so that we could have let him know what a total utter cant he is... but they scraped it and are now reaping the ‘benefits’ of the Hughes-less effect as they slide down the Prem table.
He will get the sack and pocket a large chunk of the 3 year contract those mugs gave him. Then you’ll hear his bitch Robbie Savage constantly reminding us he’s never been relegated.

The fact my biggest smile of the day so far came after hearing Hughes was unlucky/robbed whatever says it all. Excluding the likes of politicians or convicted criminals, i'm trying and failing to think of a less likeable person.

He should have held his hands up, taken at least some responsibility and apologised to us. Never been relegated my arse.

Paolu Sousa being linked with Southampton now, so I reckon he will be gone before the end of the year.

And season without a relegation 😡

I'd dislike him less if he was honest for once and openly said results are unacceptable, rather than constantly putting a positive spin on everything. After Saints' latest league defeat, he was muttering about studying the many positive stats from the match. News flash: Only one stat matters, especially for clubs endlessly circling the plughole .

It would also be good to hear him take some personal responsibility for the plights of the teams unfortunate enough to be managed by him. He always manages to distance himself from the crushingly disappointing events unfolding on the pitch.

Looking at the results of this poll, Hughes actually scans, and post on, fans' messageboards! There is what statisticians might call "an outlier" in this poll, and quite striking it is too.

Utterly meaningless statistic these days, of course, since most relegated clubs have already changed manager before going down.

I'm not quite geeky enough to research the stats, but I wonder what proportion of relegated teams end the season with the manager they started wit.h
