Is Eze the new Taarabt? 15:34 - Dec 22 with 6507 viewsDylanP

Is Eze the new Taarabt? I find myself too often frustrated and only occassionally impressed with a flash of great play. The feeling reminds me of watching Taarabtm except that Taarabt was more extreme in both how frustrating he was and how utterly brilliant his flashes were. Of course, Eze is still a very young player, so he's still developing, but I can't help feeling that too often he is not being aggressive enough to live up to the potential.

'He is still developing' being the key phrase.

Or we can do what we always do and get frustreated if he isn't at his best game after game.

We have a pattern tbf.

I just think that he was under the radar last season and the beginning of this season so didn't really receive the attention he is now getting from the opposition. He DOES have the ability to hurt teams but they now know this and he gets double or triple marked these days. All this means is that the rest of the midfield get a bit more time and so far, play better. As he matures he will learn what to do with the close attention and work out ways to overcome it. AT was 22-23 when we started to see the benefits of what he was truly capable of (both good and bad LOL) so I wouldn't write of Ebere just yet.

The grass is always greener.

He doesn't have the Zidane like ability that Adel occasionally showed but for me he he is like watching what Roy Wegerle would have been like if he played midfield.

Never knowingly right.

I hate to be on the lad's back, but too often I hear the commentator say "it just isn't Eze's day today" and I think, "maybe he should put in a bit more effort and chase the bloody ball -- and stop falling over at every touch!". Add a bit more effort to his undeniable talent and maybe we have something. There are no points for "potential" in life (or football).

Have you ever seen him play? Perhaps you are just hankering for the says of Conor Washington up front but there is little wrong with Eze's effort and he DOES chase the ball down. He also doesn't fall over at every touch... he DOES get fouled an awful lot though, perhaps that what you meant.

Half of them are fouls and half of them are fakes.

Falling down in the box on the breakaway -- the second week in a row that a galloping breakaway amounts to nothing -- is frustrating as fck!

Eze’s young and far from the finished article. But his performances this season have generally been good. Sometimes very good with plenty of our opponents supporters saying he’s the best player they’ve seen this season.

Cant help but think that you might be expecting too much at this early stage in his career.

This.

I think it's especially hard for him to play the type of 'contain' game we did so well today. A player with his skills is going to want to use them, but any mistake is more likely to be punished. The safe option isn't instinctive for him, it has to be learned and that'll take time.

I wanna see all that and desperately want him to succeed. But I aint seeing it. I'm shouting at the tele shoot, while he is slowing down the play and doubling back, or worse, just inexplicably falling over. we talk of the talent, but there are one or two flashes of it over 80 minutes before he is subbed off. Still talent and age is such that he has plenty of time to prove himself. Just frustrating me this year

I like Eze but he is no where near having Adels talent, he could do things with a ball that would have you saying holy sh1t , they are two different players and we are blessed to have seen both at hq in the last 10 years , Eze will play for England and be a 25 million pound player he is an all round footballer than Adel and he still has room for improvement

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

sorry Dylan, you're a respected poster. But please. Leave it out. This is nonsense.
He puts in loads of effort, this whole 'effort' thing is a load of BS - really pisses me off.

Bare bones.

Fair point. We’ve just won away at Forest for the first time in 80 odd years and instead of celebrating this we’re trying to pick holes in one of our best players... only at QPR!!

To be fair to Dylan, his OP was a musing from during the first half. I didn't see it as moaning.

There was one occasion where he chased after a long ball punted to him and he tried to cut inside when he should have got a shot away.

The problem we had was that ball retention wasn't great and we could have done with him hanging on to the ball a bit longer every now and then to relieve the pressure (which he normally does), but that just didn't really happen today.

For all Taarabt's talent, one way that Eze doesn't resemble him is that he doesn't seem to be a bit of a dick.

McClaren clearly rates him and I think will get more out of him given enough time.

This. He can be 50% as good as taraabt as long as he isn't the career disaster taraabt is. Who cares how good someone who completely wasted his career is!?

That's very optimistic in my view. He has a hell of a lot to learn, the last couple of games he has not really been in the game nearly enough. Dylan is right, he does go over very easily - he's clearly a strong lad and doesn't need to do that and referees are starting to ignore it so he's not getting free kicks now where he used to. He certainly has the talent but you need more than that at our level. Hopefully McLaren will work with him and he'll keep improving.

Taarabt scored goals. Although he also had an annoying habit of shooting from range when he had no chance of scoring, and a cut-back and pass to a team-mate would have been a better option. Eze needs to be encouraged to shoot more, and to not be disheartened if he misses. We saw his two fantastic strikes in that one game for Wycombe, and he hasn't replicated that for Rangers so far. Hopefully it will come.

How can anyone complain about Eze having watched Conor Washington in 100 games. Not sure about others but being entertained by Eze + Co this year and being competitive in nearly every game is a real pleasure so let's enjoy it.

He's had what 25 games at this level now, not a lot really. I love watching him, he seems to glide with the ball at his feet, he's going to be a very good player. He does have plenty of flaws at the moment and loads to improve on but he's got something about him

I'd be delighted to eat my words. Hope the boy does come good. Really good. I'm desperate for it, to be honest. I just don't see it now and don't think he does enough. He does one or two great turn or flicks in 80 minutes and the rest of the time he seems to be ambling around, falling over, slowing it down, or giving it away. He needs a little splash of Jamie Mackie and some direct to goal go go.
