The pub across the road from the station The Howard is ok and some better ones if you carry on past towards centre. Most pubs by the ground are home fans only and very unfriendly

I used to live right opposite the ground. Yeah avoid the pubs near by, ones in town should be fine. The Sheffield Tap right at the station is decent if you like a variety of strong-as-fck ales.

Regarding walking, yeah ten minute walk i'd say.

I’ve been twice.New year’s day in 91 for the 1-0 loss and about 4-5 years ago and it was a 3-0(?)loss.I’ve just seen it was 2008.
Not one of my lucky grounds, and I was thinking of going, but now i’ll keep my money for Pompey instead. One visit and 1 victory, although Coney should’ve scored.

Get off the train at Sheffield and go straight into the Sheffield Tap on Platform One, Its a real ale paradise and very friendly too, and it has its own brewery on site. The beer is so good you might not remember to go o the game; as almost happened to me at Doncaster 9 year ago.

Good alternative pub, for the real ale devotees, is The Sheaf, about 3-4 minutes walk from ground.

I remember they had a forward line with Tony Currie, Alan Woodward & Stewart Scullion (my all time favourite player) in it.

Certainly that was the best Blades team in my lifetime.

I had forgotten Hockey played for them, but I definitely recall him & Hopkins trying to end the career of all opponents they played against for Brum!

Will be there Saturday. Great ground and city and now have a daughter resident there so accommodation too.

Been about half a dozen times, mixed bag of results but probably the best was a midweek cup win. Memory is a bit sketchy but I think Rowlands got both goals in a 2-0 win and I think United may have been a Division above us at that time.

I've heard it said from one of the elders (older than me at least) that it was Brammal Lane in late February rather than Carrow Road in mid April where we lost the league in 75/76. We went there second in the table on a run of 5 straight wins (including away at Villa, Spurs, and Leicester). They were cut adrift at the bottom with 2 wins in 30 on the way to the first of their 3 relegtions in 5 seasons which would take them to Division 4. In a nutshell they were c r a p. The game had hardly started when Masson hit the bar from a free-kick. This was surely going to be another comfortable Rangers win but the Blades did something unusual for them that season and turned up and played. Masson gets another chance at the end as he shimmies past two players before a one-two with Bowles puts him through alas he runs out of pace. Either one of those chances couldve given us the League, then next season's European Cup (obviously) and the World Club Cup the year after. The game at Bramall Lane ended 0-0.

Yep - reading Stan's autobiography, that was his view and that of many others.

We all try and forget Carrow Road but that 0-0 at a doomed Sheff Utd was (to quote Stan) "very, very, disappointing."

Just be aware that the Sheffield Tap doesn't allow colours or at least away colours for certain. Great range of beers though, so would recommend if you can get in.

Thanks to 18 Stone for reminding me of this song, surely one of the best chants in English football. I remember our 3rd Round 0-3 home defeat to the Blades in 2015 and recall thinking that away supporters can rarely have owned our ground more than on that day. Both School End tiers were packed and they sang all game, whilst the rest of Loftus Road was sparsely populated and virtually silent. And none of their chants (as I recall) were celebrating their top rapist, Ched Evans.

Bramall Lane mentioned in this wonderful Graham Fellows song. New as far as I can make out.
