Most of the far east car companys announced a while ago that they were taking production back you Japan, as they no longer see the viability, especially with deisel car sales falling through the floor, of overseas production, and want to keep production within Japan.

Honda's decision appears to be based on a number of factors, of which Brexit is one.
The auto industry is changing. Sales of diesel cars are falling, electric vehicles rising. But, who knows, what the market will be in 3 years time, when the shutdown decision comes into force.
What is clear is that production will be closer to Honda's component suppliers. And, that the EU-Japan trade deal will have eliminated tariffs, while post-Brexit UK will still need to impose those tariffs, under WTO rules.

Ive no idea therefore I’d be interested to know if any of these plants in Europe are planning to close. Whatever the answer it may go some way in finding out whether pulling the plug on the uk plants has anything to do with Brexit.

Honda said the move was due to global changes in the car industry and the need to launch electric vehicles and had nothing to do with Brexit.

It does sound like no deal will be ruled out. I want us to stay in the EU but accept the outcome of the referendum. I do think we must come out with a deal, though, to avoid some genuinely serious consequences for our economy and the functioning of the country.

1. Leave with a deal
2. Leave with no deal
3. No Brexit
At the moment option 2 is the default.
Option 1 is her deal, or a minor amendment to it. Our sovereign Parliament rejected it by 230 votes on Jan 15th. The EU say the Withdrawal Agreement won't be changed. So why will that get through, between now and end of March?
Option 2 could be off the table by tomorrow night - if Parliament passes some of the proposed amendments. Very few MPs are prepared to vote for the crash-out, no-deal option because they know how damaging it will be.
Option 3 doesn't reflect "the will of the people". Is that still the case ?
IMHO the best choice is 3, followed by 1 and never go to 2.
Quite frankly, if you listen to what Mark Rutte, the Dutch PM said yesterday, only options 1 and 3 make any sense. And that's coming from 1 of the UK's best friends in Europe. | |
