What did Leave campaigners claim about the single market and customs union before the referendum? Lots of different things. Anyone who says they knew exactly what they were voting for might be interested in this brief reminder:

Never mind who said what and to whom, you only had to google 'customs union or single market' at the time and you'd have known conclusively what it meant.

Makes me laugh when Leavers are accused of not knowing what they were voting for, by the simple nature of change most of us were aware it's a step in the dark and took time to find out.

Does anything in this country ever get finished anymore?

Brexit, FFP, Crossrail, Heathrow, White Hart Lane.

QPR losing runs

You forgot to add Warren Farm....and our new 40k seat stadium

Scooters, Tunes, Trainers and QPR.

I respect all the remainers fears about Brexit, I agree with you.
But all my life I have been screwed over my local government. Even more by the national government. I am petrified what a proper European government will do.

It's all immaterial now that we are coming out of the EU but the EU has done some good things for us, for example:
- Reduced mobile roaming costs
- Clean beach legislation
- Emissions legislation, to make vehicles cleaner (40,000 people die prematurely every year in the UK due to air pollution, after all).

I always feel that extreme regulations and laws are less likely when a diverse group of countries - 28 of them - are making the decision. Not that the EU controls everything we do, mind... We don't use the Euro, for example. Nor would the EU ever control everything the UK does because how likely is it that our lovely MPs would fully relinquish control?

Picking up on what someone else said on here, though, the EU is very wasteful. Having two central offices is ridiculous and they should've settled on one HQ years ago, to save millions of Euros.

Look, I am so old fashioned and formal that it takes quite some effort not to end my posts "Yours faithfully" .

I can stop doing it if it's annoying.

Given what we are being told by the majority of MPs will happen if we leave and assuming it would be the same if we decided to leave in the future what would the EU need to do for those MPs to want to leave.

Bit of a relief to find out it was his initials, I've been trying to decipher it for the last five years.

“We may never leave” says Mrs May today in Grimsby. Just one of the possible outcomes she mentioned, but the first time I've heard it so baldly put. Perhaps you are right and the intention was always to stay.

Don't forget the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), which means that whichever EU country we are in, if we fall ill or have an accident, we get treated for free by local doctors or hospitals, and our country of citizenship picks up the tab.

This is what worries me most about Brexit. Mrs GH is an EU citizen, and we regularly visit her ageing parents, as well as having foreign holidays. Without the EHIC, we would be in trouble. We have both had cancer, and if we had to get travel insurance covering health risks, the cost would be prohibitive.

Just one more major advantage of EU membership.

Yours etc, GloryHunter

Time to kick May out and call a general election.

Unless we get a one party overall majority this’ll never get resolved.

The deal she cooked up with the EU was always to stop us leaving, to pay them 39Billion and they keep control, she knew and they knew it would always be defeated, she is a fecking liar, The EU is still controlling the British government and the people.

It's the most crooked farce in politics and democracy

We should just leave.

Both the main parties fought the last election on respecting the result of the referendum, hopefully those in constituencies that voted to leave and are doing their best to remain will get their comeuppance at the ballot box next time around.

MPs won't be daft enough to vote leave with no deal in tomorrow's vote. That just leaves the following vote to delay Brexit. As the EU are highly unlikey to offer further concessions, we remain despite the referendum result.

Congratulations to your side. The MPs all got together the day after the referendum to plan how to stay. Even the arch europhobe Jeremy Corbyn joined in. I would have more respect for them if it was announced the day after the vote that the referendum result would be ignored at least that would be honest but then possibly an honest politician is a contradiction in terms.

Both deals, The Prime Ministers and Labours means not leaving the EU

One thing is for sure the whole country is split, if remainers simple think everything will be fine and they can go back to how it was without repercussions they are sadly mistaken.

Nothing has or will be done to address the pressure on education housing NHS and everything else that made so many people vote to leave due to unrestricted entry.

Watch the hostility grow as the problems get worse

All faith in a UK government and it's politicians, if it has not already, will be lost with the belief that the EU is our Master and you can never leave.

Hotel California or should that be Brussels.

Yes, many people were worried about pressure on housing, education and the NHS. What's happened ? Immigration is up due to non EU people coming here. Eu immigrants were
/are net contributers whereas non Eu ones as a whole are not. An unpalatable fact but generally true. As a previous poster said, there will be unrest if we remain, but it looks like that's what will happen.

Neither party will get a majority, a general election won't solve this

A general election is in no way a representation of all the people who vote like in a referendum, you can win GA with a minority of votes.

It's not going to be one party is for leaving another for stay so it would not be the same question and it would be rigged to stay whatever way you voted or vote.

That number also went on to say the majority came as students on short term visas.
It may still be too high but that is down to the Gov to reduce and have the power to do so.

With the EU you can not control how many come from the EU Ever.
