Can we all calm down as the chances of leaving are slim if not zero. The EU will not negotiate a new deal. Parliament will not accept the old deal. Parliament will not allow a no deal exit.

We all seem to be heading for a second referendum. It will either result in a remain win or if the vote is still to leave we are back to my first paragraph.

What somebody proposes when trying for the top job and what they find when reality dawns are two different things. A majority of MPs want to stay in the EU but are frightened of the consequence to revoking A50 so there has been a deliberate plan by parliament to force a situation where a second referendum is inevitable. If those MPs win a second referendum then they have been let off the hook, if they lose they are no worse off so will revoke A50.

So potentially they could lose twice and still revoke Article 50 ? You just said they are scared of revoking after one defeat .

Maybe frightened is too strong a word and I should have used weary instead.

Staying in the EU is the aim of a majority of MPs by revoking A50 and they will but they would rather be instructed by the public if there is a chance. A second referendum gives them that chance and if they win even by 50.1% to 49.9% the "will of the people will have been heard" and MPs will just be carrying out that instruction. In reality if they lose the referendum then there will hardly be a revolution if A50 is revoked. Maybe a few marches and a low turnout at the next election but they can live with that.

Weary, a most apt word. In all my life I've never known a situation that has produced such weariness in everyone from dukes to dustmen. The only non-weary people I've spoken to are a proportion of young folk who haven't a clue what's happening n the country and don't really care.

Ignoring your opinion that a 0.1 victory trumps a 2.0 one .
We live in a democracy . I dont know about you but I was brought up to use my vote ,it was my voice ,my choice .My vote as an 18 year old was counted as much as my teachers ,my parents my employer. Millions of people feel the same Leave or Remain . Take that away ,ignoring it rubbishing everything it stands for would be dangerous .There would be riots ,civil disobedience and violence because peaceful means would have been shown to be worthless . Extreme politics would come to the fore and stoke the fire on the back of the moral high ground ..

Not my opinion, sarcasm is always difficult to put over in simple text but notice the quotes.

I want to leave every bit as much as you but those in power not to mention a great majority of the media do not. We must agree to disagree over your scenario should we not leave. I really believe now it will be bad if we leave not for any economic reasons but simply so many people have a vested interest in ensuring leaving the EU will not be successful.

It's a start but thus far, the UK has only replicated 10 of the 40 deals it is currently part of as an EU member....

I'm not a LibDem voter but thanks for flagging that up. The articles shows a history of hypocrisy from Swinson when it comes to the environment.

Why on earth an MP from Scotland should have any truck with fracking when Scotland has enviable tidal, pumped storage, wind and hydroelectric potential is beyond me.

I'm sure you never used to be quite this mental Blob. I really like the fact that having people campaign during an election is now deemed a threat to democracy.
