The thought Corbyn wants no deal slightly skewered by him coming out and saying the condition he asked for to sit with May was the non-possibility of no deal

Labour MP's represent urban remain constituencies ( e.g Manchester, London, Liverpool, Leeds, Cardiff) and leave areas such as Stoke and Sunderland. Labour has a balancing act of those who want a second referendum and those who want to leave. Staying in the customs union is a brexit for those more in the middle. I am a Labour supporter and voted remain holding my nose. There are a lot of faults within the EU looking at issues such as Greece.
Also immigration is too high. I live in East London and have seen a population increase drastically in recent years.

One of the tragic things about the whole business is that the UK - even as a member of the EU - could still have controlled immigration from the EU a lot more tightly. Had they done so, it's likely that a lot of people who voted leave due to what they saw as "uncontrolled immigration" may not have voted in the way they did. Yet again, the fault of successive UK governments - not the EU.

I couldn’t watch more than a minute or two of that garbage. What a bunch of hypocritical w@nkers the Tory mps are.117 of them didn’t think she was fit to run their party, but all of them voted that she was fit to run the country.

More likely that she was just more fit to run the country than Corbyn!

This is an excellent thread, folks. Some seriously knowledgeable posters on here. I freely admit I find the whole thing hard to follow, so thanks for the info.

Corbyn could never get in,and I speak as someone who joined the Labour Party after his election. He is too toxic at the moment to get anywhere near the results he achieved 18 months ago.
I’m just getting sick of all the bullsh@t from all sides of the Commons. But I’m even more sick of the cowards in the tory party who think that struggling on under the worst prime minister in history has to be a better choice than taking the chance to ditch her once and for all.
117 of them wanted her out last time and now none of them did.
Spineless c@nts the lot of them.

Without seeing what you're referencing - Geoffrey Cox might've been being a bit disingenuous dependent on what he exactly said...

Withdrawing Art.50 doesn't mean you can never ever trigger it again in future at all.

The CJEU ruling said the UK could withdraw / revoke Art.50 as per this article explainer...

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-cancel-stop-revoke-article

"However, once the UK has revoked Article 50, there would be nothing stopping it from deciding to leave again. So this would be quite difficult to police, and in practice it could potentially be used to reset the two year negotiating period. This would probably make other EU member states, and officials, extremely angry however. "

He didn't say you could never trigger it again but it would be very difficult to do it again and a non starter

I have mixed feelings about Corbyn as a Labour supporter. I am not an ardent remainer but do feel that he should be a sort of caretaker leader now as do not see him as electable. Left of centre friends who are remainers are more inclined to support the lib dems whilst more traditional Labour supporters do not trust him.

I’m not sure I could even vote for labour at the minute unless they come up with a concrete stance on brexit.Nobody seems to know what the party stands for on this important policy.
I’m sick of the wait and see policy spouted by the leadership.Just come down on one side or the other and people might start to have a bit of confidence again.Including me.

OK so he was definitely playing politics / being disingenuous in that case then. Its 100% not a non-starter - but they don't want people to think revoking for even a year or two is an option do they - they want enough MPs to be worn down and agree the May deal?

Totally agree with this. Blair government decided to make us the only country to allow unrestricted immigration when Poland et Al joined the eu. France and Germany put restrictions on in the early years. We could have still had some immigration for the jobs that needed filling, but it wouldn't have been such an incendiary issue, and the population wouldn't have gone up as dramatically as it has

Indeed. Had the wording stayed the same "Free movement of labour" to what it is today "Free movement of people", remain would have walked it.

Yes a lot of people voted Leave because they were worried about immigration but all that's happened is that immigration from the EU has dropped since the referendum but immigration from outside the EU has increased. The government is still unable to address this.

I think the problem with immigration is the inadequate system. I have a friend from outside the EU who works in IT. He is legally here on a visa but wanted to bring his wife and child into the UK. He was told he does not earn enough money and has taken on a weekend job on top of his full time job to get enough earnings to bring them into the UK. On the other hand there are people who come into the UK and get housed and benefits who do not contribute to the economy. Those examples are then used by the media to stir up anti immigrant propaganda.

Where i live there are terraced houses some of which are council owned. One was empty and a so called single parent Eastern European women moved in with 2 children. A month later a male moved in with a 4 by 4 car who appears to be the children's father. I dislike the Daily Mail but I can see why people get riled by media stories regarding immigration. The Tories also have failed to deal with immigration properly and we must remember the Home secretary for a lot of the more recent years was a certain Theresa May.

And this is a problem (and i've got no real problem with immigration in any case). I don't know the stats but immigrants from EU are much higher proportioned towards skilled workers than non-EU. And we need both.

Do honestly believe that?

We've a PM who as Home Sec came up with the Hostile Environment thing that led to the Windrush deportations, she insisted that Freedom of Movement was a red line in Brexit (making her job tons harder) and her party has been in govt since 2010 on a manifesto promise to reduce net immigration to less than 100k; plus it would be a massive vote winner for a govt in the shit.

But you think they look at all that and say "feck it, we just can't be arsed?"

Seriously? Why?
