Was fortunate enough to meet him once - an absolute gent as well as one of the greatest keepers. We probably had four truly world class players in that 66 side and he was one of them.

What might have been in 1970 had he not 'mysteriously' got food poisoning just before the quarter-final. FWIW I think we'd have been lining up against Brazil again in the final.
I remember a trip to a game where most of the conversation centred around the fact he was the opposition goalie. There was a sense of awe about the man and it seemed like we’d achieved the impossible after coming out on top. Seemed like a nice bloke, was disappointed when he had to sell his football memorabilia to stay afloat. Another boyhood legend gone.
In the 80's he turned out for the Leicester City all stars (birchinall etc) against a B&Q 11, made up of the then 3 main B&Q's in Leicester and it was just a private sunday match that i'm glad to say we won.
I remember clearly i was asked to mark Gordon. 1 eye, replacement hip, and at his age.....me at my best weight ever, and fitness that comes with football 3 times a week at 20 years old....
The old fella 'ghosted' me numerous times, there was no stopping him, and i just stood there saying hello to his wake as he flew past with the ball.
got a few pics of me in my Crown Paints Red strip with Gordon in Leicester Blue. RIP to Englands best ever keeper, and the man who made 'that' save!
Eusebio was born to play in that kit , god imagine him Bowles and Thomas as a front 3 RIP to Banks he was a head of his generation when it came to being a goal keeper he also seemed a decent fella as well
And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles
