Three more than went to form the SDP back in 1981. Interesting times for the Labour Party and for politics in general.

Poll: Where will Clive put QPR in his new season preview

Excluding Iraq, and letting Gordon brown loose, Blair wasn't too bad. Better than any current options. But I suppose you can get nostalgic for anything

"Excluding Iraq..." That's akin to saying "excluding the Holocaust..." to underpin Hitlers appeal. The lying ladies front bottom should be in prison... for a long time.

The grass is always greener.

@FDC didn't want to quote the whole message as it was large

But it's deeply worrying to me that a member of a group who have left Labour citing concerns on antisemitism then start making speeches about "left wing intellectuals" like that isn't an antisemitic trope

Don’t feel for me, I’d rather them outside the tent pissing in than inside the tent pissing on the sleeping bags.

He should feel for you (and everyone else).
When labour behave like this, the tories get carte blanche.
Then we all get screwed!

Poll: Why are you a QPR supporter?

@robith, quite, very odd. Being generous I guess she's just not very bright, rather than anything more sinister. Presumably she thought she was painting Corbyn et al as metropolitan elites etc, rather than intentionally dog whistling?

@Miss Terraces, I think it's fairly clear that's precisely what this lot are up to. They don't have a political project beyond trying to block Corbyn / a left-wing Labour party from getting into government. The suggestion that they will only stand in marginals at the next GE pretty much confirms that.

The gift that keep giving

When asked whether this betrays her constituents - who voted her in as a Labour MP - Angela Smith responded saying:

"Well you'll have to go out and ask them."

THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT A BY-ELECTION IS, ANGELA.

The old SDP might have failed to achieve anything much, but they did get rid of Foot by taking away enough Labour support to give the Tories a landslide in 1983.

However the SDP had one or two sharp tools like David Owen and this lot on the face of it don't have anyone to front up in an election campaign. I guess that Watson is the key man here - he could make a massive difference if he jumps. A bit of a warning shot fired by him earlier if you ask me:

Some of the vitriol here shows why the Tories are usually in the ascendancy - even when internally divided they manage to retain a united front where many of the left hate others on the left more than the common enemy. I remember this crap from my trade union days, too much hardline Stalinism.

Enemy?

Nobody is your enemy. I've always voted conservative but would never call someone who voted differently to me, my enemy.

Far left, far right.... All arsesoles. Everyone in the middle, normal.

I'm politically homeless at the moment.

Dislike May, think she's handled Brexit appallingly.
Dislike Corbyn for a lot of his international policies / support
Won't vote Liberal or Green as I support Brexit

Looking for a central party....

Haven't seen anyone on the left hate the left in this thread?

Unless you think cronyism, removing Juries from the justice system, Water Privatisation, Bombing the Middle East, Saudi lobbying, and Voting against gay marriage are left ideals? For what it's worth there are worse still in the Labour party.

Some people (including some on here) seem to be of the opinion that 'Centrism' is

A) an ideology
B) morally superior

It's not, it's cowardice and usually just people who think 'i'm alright Jack' but too embarrassed to admit they have right wing views in front of their dinner party guests who actually have decent values and wish to make life better for others.

Baz,those are precisely the accusations that are pointed at the hard left .

Like it or not centrism is where the votes that elect governments are ...There are simply not enough at either end of the political spectrum

Anyhow I resolved to keep out of politics on here so I will go back to read only .....u rrrs

The press keep hammering Corbyn, but not to much avail. The party still has over 500k members and is the largest in Europe. These leavers allow Corbyn to carry the excuse that they are the splitters and if any vote is lost by a few votes and they did not vote with the party, then they will be blamed. So, they have shot themselves in the foot here. And that is what the remaining right-wing Labour MP's are essentially saying in a code to them about the timing of it.

The remaining MP's who don't want socialist policies for Labour (even though that is the real reason it is the largest party in Europe) will feel even more pressure to leave as Momentum goes after their seats and they have less say in the party.

If they do, this strengthens Corbyn's position that he cannot be expected to win when these "Moderate Militants" split the party vote, allowing a Tory govt to continue with DUP leadership. A shameful position to help the DUP stay in power.

When a GE comes, these people will most likely (but not for sure) be replaced by socialist candidates with a backing force of 500K members to canvas for them. The Tory mess of Brexit will not be forgotten by then but the splitters will be forgotten.

Aside interesting point is that Chuka had a firm grip on his local Labour branch so, now he literally gives that to the Corbynites as his local backers will be made to look like fools for backing him. And the local Momentum lot will be hammering them hard in the local branch and will probably get a leftie in.

Expect more to go soon. Watson will be the biggie and that will increase the chances of the Labour membership regaining control of their party, that they pay and vote for. As 500K loony lefties did not want this lot, they want Socialism.

And despite what the press may say, here is what some Jewish socialists in the UK think about the anti-semitism in the Labour Party: https://www.jewishsocialist.org.uk/news/item/statement-on-labours-problem-with-a

Interesting that their views never get heard anywhere yes?
