McClaren dragged him over for a proper verbal, kept vacating his space, not closing down his man, McClaren was doing his nut, and then yet again unchallenged cross from his space for winner. Woeful, plays percentages, never closes his man.
1st goal cross from his space, 2nd goal got in the way and Murphy walked round him after Lynch's error, got away with a couple of major errors straight after Lynch, McClaren gave it to him and then the exact same a minute later, and 3rd goal from his space - plays percentages - in comparison to Furlong who closed out Murphy from crossing minutes before, as fullbacks as meant to - not offer dress crosses into the box all night
I've articulated my views on Bidwell many times over the past couple of years. However, I'm even more critical of the club with regard to their inability to provide a viable option. All players give more when they know a poor performance or series of poor performances will cost them their place and Bidwell must know there is no alternative to him as a left back. Personally I would try Manning who has filled in there before but it would appear that McCLaren doesn't rate him anywhere on the field. Some will argue that he's not quick enough but I believe he is better positionally and may give more in terms of effort - at the very least it will give Bidwell the kick up the arse he clearly needs.
Spends more time at centre half than at left back. Noticed this ages ago. No idea why.
He's hiding, doesn't want to be exposed for his lack of pace, McClaren could see that coming tonight as must everyone in The Paddock. We urgently need cover in the position and sure club are working on it.

Nah, it’s cos he’s covering your mate Lynch. Who was dog toffee yet again. Nice try pointing the blame elsewhere though.
Bidwell, Lynch and Leistner for that matter all have flaws in their game, it's why they're playing for us and not Spurs or Man City. But they have assets too, which is why they're not at Cheltenham. Without Hall or Cameron playing in front of them it's a stretch for them to play in a three/four/three. Bidwell gets drawn into the middle leaving a prairie on his left side. Against most wingers he can get back and frequently tackles well when he does, but not against a team with the wide threat of WBA. Lynch OTOH often creeps upfield (which is connected to Bidwell moving inside) where he can be dangerous (to life and limb sometimes) but lacks both the vision to know when to do it and the speed to get back.
Neither of them are perfect, but they're all we've got for now neither of them are going anywhere until May at least. I'd prefer they get a roasting now and again than a couple of more talented but raw rookies.
I bow before the views of others about Bidwell's defending, but I often notice how much space he finds when hugging the wing, waving his arms about demanding the ball and giving us a good option down the left side.
Bidwell is doing fine imho, gets up and down, gets tackles and headers in, gives it his all and applies himself well, got his limitations as all the players have - a good pro I would suggest hence why he has been a regular at the clubs he has played for.....no Ashely Cole or Luke Shaw but well good enough for us.
Don't play him at wing back is half the answer to any poor recent showings. Other than that he's been decent this season, solid enough defensively and his crossing has been really good, not sure how many assists so far but he's got to be on 2 or 3 - formed a good partnership with Freeman on the left too which is key for a full back.
He's also literally all we have at LB so it's lucky that he's incredibly fit and *always* available. Doesn't hide when it comes to being selected every week does he? Unlike "Lynchy".
I'm not really sure what Bidwell did that was so wrong, he had no protection in front of him, inside of him Lynch was all over the place and he was up against one of the best wingers in the division. West brom played it well and over loaded both wings when we went down to 10 men and we couldn't cope.

Mclaren is pretty predictable with his substitution patterns, so this will never happen, but i wouldnt mind seeing Manning replace Bidwell as a LB/LWB if we need to make an attacking sub. Good crosser, can overlap, good at playing players through down the channel. He's played the position before, and done well.
Obviously he's a defensive downgrade, and should not start over bidwell. but if we're chasing a game, its not a terrible shout in my opinion
I am a big Bidwell fan but admit he does flaws but as mentioned by others that is why he is playing in the championship, he does get dragged in the centre however that could well be just to cover the cbs when out of position.
No a world beater but I think he has been one of our better players this season
Bids is clearly not suited too the wing back role. He does his job well when he has some protection in front of him, however there's been desperately little of that in the last few games.
If playing 3 at the back with wing backs, I'd actually prefer to see Lynch or Manning there. Both of them have a much better left foot. And putting Lynch there means when he has his 2 a match brain farts, there's hopefully some cover behind.

1st goal - worth reviewing highlights to see how he lost his man, woeful. 2nd goal - regardless of whether or not as the defender facing the ball he should have called and taken it, whether he did call or just make hand signals, he bought a dummy inside and then got his legs crossed and actually blocked Luongo from making the tackle 3rd goal - relatively blameless on reviewing highlights just seasons long frustration in him never getting touch tight and having seen McClaren give him a talking to around 80th minute and making exact same mistake moments later, McClaren just shook his head in despair.
