Referee! (And assistant) - WBA 09:08 - Feb 20 with 2493 viewsPinnerPaul

Disclaimer - based on watching live only - no replays

1) Mass pen claim 1st half - not for me
2) Our pen - didn't have a great view - but not a massive shout from crowd/players but then not a massive moan from WBA either
3) Lumley - That WAS handball outside the box in 2nd half wasn't it? Looked like it to me
4) Assistant ER - Now as I do that mostly all the time myself, I know its not easy but 1st half he missed two obvious ones and to me called 2 'technical ones (one on/one off) incorrectly as well. Missed an obvious foul right in front of him 2nd half as well. Thought he was poor.

Ref pretty decent though - foul on Eze looked an orange in real time, so yellow not incorrect as such.

Even before they scored, i felt 5 mins added on was over the top. Lumley got warned on 89 mins about time wasting but hadnt until that point. their keeper barely had that half and the trainer was on once i think from memory.

Full set of substitutions plus penalty decision/faffing plus Freeman injury, I think on the whole 5 minutes was probably about right in hindsight.

Poll: How old is everyone on here?

One of our subs was at ht,and the other 2 were made at the same time.5 mins was harsh.I hoped for 3 but expected 4.
He only allowed 1 min in the 1st half for the same amount of injuries and goals.

Not sure how you can say ref was decent.

Clear red for Livermore he only booked him.
our penalty was never a penalty and Lumley should have been sent off for the handball

Lumley did not handle the ball, he chested it. I sat by press box and they show instant replays on TV.

Thought our two other penalty shouts were more than the one he gave. Was strange that he started chastising Lumley for time wasting when he wasn't yet was more than happy to allow WBA to wander off to the side for drinks/tactics when it was a drop ball.

If the extra time was 5 minutes then the Watford extra time should have been 25.

Some guy in the away end was going puce in the face screaming at the lino when Freeman was down injured? In the paddocks we shouted "You're doing great lino!" and he gave us a thumbs up behind his back. Quite tickled me

Referee talking to Lumley about his time wasting when he had to climb into the School End Lower on three occasions to retrieve the ball himself in last few minutes because that was only way he could get the ball back.
I thought 4 additional minutes. 5 was a bit harsh. We had the clock on and only 78 seconds left when they got their third. How many black cats have we run over in the last few weeks ?

The commentators on the stream I watched were WBA fans and were amazed 5 minutes were added.
They actually thought time was about up just before they scored (they had counted 4 additional minutes not 5 minutes)

I thought 4 mins - there were 3 subs from them, 1 double from us plus the Freeman injury and a little time wasting

On the last point - common myth that GK handling outside the box is an automatic red card - has to be DOGSO.

Our pen and 'red' card both debateable - which is what I said above!

Don't suppose people will remember those last two when saying refs give everything against us though!

The Luongo one at the school end I thought was a pen. I've only seen one replay and there was contact. The fact the away fans didn't abuse Luongo for diving told a story, neither did the defenders. I don't recall any other incident. The one we got was one that I thought could have been given but understand if it wasn't as it wasn't 100% conclusive either way. The ref only has one view .

As for this thread discussing the officials, best ones we've had in weeks.

Thought Luongo's was more of a pen than Hemed's. Both had there heels clipped.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Freeman’s dive was laughable.
Hard luck, great game from both sides, move on.

There was one in the first half with Luongo that you've mentioned, I can't seem to find it in the highlights but there was one 5 mins or so prior to the Hemed one that looked a better shout.

Hi Paul,

Yes - they said on coverage I watched times almost up - but there was around 1 minute 45 seconds to go and then they scored.

I felt sick.

Only slightly related, ref in the Watford game seemed unaware of the handball rule - there were at least three by Watford that went unpunished, one of them blatant.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Luongo's fall was never a penalty.
I thought the one that was given was very soft. If it had been against us we'd have been up in arms.
Lumley looked like he'd handballed outside the area, but I only saw it once at full speed, so I'll bow to the knowledge of anyone who saw the replays.
The tackle on Eze could have been red but I can see why it was only a yellow.
Ultimately, Freeman's departure invited pressure onto us and the last 7-8 minutes was like the siege of the Alamo. I won't comment on time added on as it's so subjective.

IF they change the law next season - being discussed soon - we wont' have anything to argue about - I can't wait!

The proposal is to add 'or gains an advantage from the ball hitting hand/arm' to the deliberate criteria we have now.

Cheers Derby - that's how I saw it - as I say though, would have gone 4 mins added myself.
