Just hoisting the flag to see who salutes it 20:48 - Apr 19 with 4294 views | Hastings_Hoops | ...does anyone hold any faint hope that next year could be a surprise for us all (eg, a Norwich, a half Norwich, or something even something vaguely resembling a Norwich type season). With some youngsters coming back, hopefully a better managerial appointment and some time to re-build some of Eze, Manning and Bright's confidence over summer? I have to say that Eustace has shown glimmers of hope: * Norwich - not much he could do in the situation given the opposition and the very recent take-over from such turgid management. * Millwall - Good tactics to stop the run of defeats and bring in some grit. *Swansea - Mixed it up again and got everything right (and everything wen right for him!). * Blackburn - Clearly wanted to look at options with Pav at RB, how well does Furlong work as a CB without Leistner, etc. I was sat behind the dugout today and what really impressed me with Eustace and Co is the 'coaching' - When BOS made that run and pinged it across goal, he look really deflated as he jogged back but the bench pulled him over and told him to "keep running at goal and not cross it next time". When Eze came off at full time, he got an arm around the shoulder. Constantly telling Joel to "hold the line". Eustace was on his feet from start to finish coaching the players through every move. Such an improvement from the previous manager. On today: I wonder if he is under instructions from the DoF and others to allow them chance to assess our options in the summer - who to sell, who to keep, who to expose to the limelight. I'll eat my words this time next year I'm sure, but I'm hopeful of a better season.

If we build a solid back four around Leistner and Furlong, and keep Scowen, Luongo to add experience in CM, then yes if if if if if if all that happens and they all stay healthy and there's no panic generated interference from upstairs or foam-flecked fans calling for someone's head after a couple of losses then yes. You forgot... If we hire a decent manager If we have any money to spend If we hang on to Freeman and/or Lumley There's a lot of work required over the summer just to make us competitive next season, let alone do a Norwich.

IF all of that happens. We will still be in the bottom three. Personaly I'm with L block ( further up this thread). I've just about lost interest in football in general. The games turned to shit. Where a touch is enough to send a grown man sprawling around the floor. Where so called experts say that this is ok. The same experts saying that this player or that player is worth £100k/£200k a week. FFS nobody in any walk of life is worth that. As for QPR ,Jesus we must be the only club that has come into so much wealth via owners and made such a calamitous fvck up of it. A point proven when we are praying that the likes of Eze who hasn't really stepped up when given his chance this year, and players, who apart from Chair, aren't really ripping up any trees, 2 divisions below where we need them next year. Just hoisting the flag to see who salutes it on 13:45 - Apr 20 with 3458 views | BrianMcCarthy | Ya, I'm looking forward to it. I think we'll hire a good manager (delighted we're not rushing into hiring any old soak), and I think we'll recruit well and I think we'll see out our most difficult FFP year yet. The following season we'll be able to spend some money, thankfully.

Just hoisting the flag to see who salutes it on 14:02 - Apr 20 with 3441 views | CiderwithRsie | A lot depends on who we get as manager/coach. I said a couple of years ago that with the state of our finances and of football generally all I want is a squad where I can see players improving, players committed to the club (especially out of the youth team) all across the pitch, and where the organisation, tactics and selections are making the best of what we've got. We had all that at the end of Ollie's reign but we hadn't had it for years before (despite being just as shite as we have been in 2019). I know that doesn't make winning side but it makes a side you can cheer for and feel are ours. The record is that when we get those things together we're decent enough at this level even with this squad.

Yes I'm hopeful with a team of younger, committed players and a couple of older heads we can still compete next season. A team we can get behind rather than a bunch of loanees and players seeing out their contract. Suggest we make Furlong captain as well.

Yep, afraid these last few seasons bear all the hallmarks of the late 90s where we circled the drain for a while before eventually falling down the hole to the third division.

Disagree. I’m looking forward to next season. Lots of young, hungry players. It’ll be our toughest season yet. But I think we’ll survive and the chickens will start coming home to roost for others in the league. Stick with it. The club needs supporting.

They do, but the same applied to most seasons after our promotion back to this division. Until the 2010/11 season that is! I find it very hard to express my thoughts on this season, but will give it a try! I was surprisingly optimistic back in August & thought we may go through the month unbeaten. I think I got that one wrong! What I didn't like about that month (apart from the defeats) was how few younger players were on the pitch for us. It seemed to be the opposite of what I was expecting. Then came the four sgnings & results/performances improved. However, apart from Kakay, we still kept our quota of having three young players on the pitch, so we replaced experienced players with better(?) experienced players. Up till the end of 2018, I enjoyed seeing us play. It wasn't always great football that we were producing, but the work ethic of our players was superb. The week of beating Ipswich, Wednesday & Villa had me on cloud nine! Three very different performances, but I doubt many of us left Loftus Road on the Friday night with a bad word to say about the club, including replacing Holloway. At that time we had a togetherness on & off the pitch similar to the early 2,000's. Even when we had a bad result, it was accepted because the team had given their all & cared. At least, it seemed that way! On December 31st, I believe we were only two points from the play offs & had celebrated out first victory at the City Ground. Wasn't life great? Into this year & we achieved two FA Cup wins plus a very good display at Villa Park.. What magic we were performing! To offset this, we hit the 93rd minute period! Game after game, we conceeded in that minute, or missed a penalty, or the referee didn't give us the blatant penalty! I have since seen three shocking performances from us - Stoke, Rotherham & Bolton (the worst of them) plus, on television, Norwich. I'm sure our away supporters can add extra. In these games it was hard to see any player getting close to giving maximum effort. Mixed in with these were Leeds & Swansea! How can we be that inconsistent? This Saturday I will be there to watch us play Forest. Am I looking forward to seeing it? Not really, but I will enjoy the time in the pub with Simon & Beth before the match & regret it will be August before we meet up again. Overall, my views on this season have fluctuated but I do regret that I've seen very little of Smyth, Chair etc & far too much of Cameron, Hemed, Lynch & Cousins. Feel free to add to that list! Next season, I expect we will have to rely on younger players & I'm quite happy about that. They should have been playing this season instead of wasting our resources on the three loanees. If it had resulted in relegation so be it. At least we would have been better prepared for our future!
