Not a lot of help from what was in front of him today and, as a result, he couldn't cope with Armstrong waiting out wide time and again. They knew that he was a novice LB and targeted him early on.
A lot to learn in that position, although I can see him grow into it given time.
We seemed very lightweight everywhere today, particularly in that Midfield. We need a big old unit who can keep hold of possession and protect that back four. The effort was there from everyone, but we were bettered all across the pitch. |  |

Blackburn clearly targeted his flank. Armstrong had a field day and dack was overloading on that flank, particularly in the first half
I wouldn’t say manning played poorly but Blackburn had a lot of joy down that side

Agree about Luongo, BOS good but his finishing is terrible.
Manning caught out of position several times, with little help from Lynch or BOS in front of him, and had no chance of catching a speedy winger. On the plus side he can thread the eye of a needle with that left foot and is a good combative player when the ball is to be won in front of him. Think the left defensive midfield role in a 4231 suits him best. The old Ale Faurlin position. | | | |

Manning is stepping in to do a job at left back. We are lucky to have someone with a left foot able to do that. For me he is an attacking central midfielder or a left winger (which is where he started) all day long. We have to bring him through properly next season. He has vision going forward and is one of the few players who can slip a forward in through the channels. Perhaps the only squad player we have who can, given the chance, do that. |  |

Exactly right. Plus was given no protection by the inexperienced BOS and had to play alongside Lynch. Not easy for anyone, especially somebody playing out of position. |  | | |

I don't see him as a left back. Neither would I pick him ahead of Scowen, Luongo or Freeman. Yet. But he has it in him to break through. |  |

He's not been a massive improvement on Bidwell. He's not the same sort of player as Bidwell. He's not been much, if any worse than Bidwell. I've never seen Bidwell do that reverse legged crossing the ball thing.

I still think you need pace to play left back and, seeing his efforts to get back when caught upfield or when a ball is played in behind him, I haven't seen any evidence he has any.

Think Manning did better today because Eustace switched"wingers"moving Freeman to the left side to help Manning out, especially defensively. It worked well, and Manning got some good balls in 1st half. Moving BOS to the right side wasn't so good, as he was pretty quiet until late on. | | | |
