Help/advice needed. 19:14 - Apr 20 with 1353 viewsSnipper

I was involved in a car accident while joining the A40 from Swakeleys roundabout nearly 3 weeks ago. The police said I couldn’t be towed from the bottom of the slip road due to there not being enough room for the tow truck.

The car was drive-able, so I drove it to Ickenham station car park to be towed. I was there about 20 minutes before the tow truck turned up to tow it. The car was officially written off a few days later.

Today, I’ve received a parking penalty notice from NCP who run the car park. It’s a £100 fine, or £60 if it’s paid within 14 days. I didn’t buy a car park ticket as I was only going to be there a very short time.

My question is, have I got good grounds for an appeal? They have a picture of me driving in to the car park, so they’ll obviously have pictures and cctv of my car being towed out.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

I know it sounds crazy but I think you have to pay. They’re interested in money, not hard luck stories and they’ll say you should have bought a ticket as you drove the car in. How it left the car park is probably irrelevant to them.

I hope I’m wrong, good luck with it and sorry to hear about the accident, hope you are ok though. Girl at work was stationary and got hit from behind by a car doing 40mph and has been off work all week as stiff as a board.

Thanks Juzzie. Sadly, I think you’re right about just paying the fine.

Id be tempted to send it to the police to pay, what if the car wasnt drivable, would there have been enough room for a recovery truck then?

Might be worth firing of a letter appealing to NCP's sense of charity but the bottom line is that you used their facilities and left without paying so if you dont get a response before the discount cut off pay it to avoid further disappointment

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

It’s not a fine, you’ve received an invoice from a limited company. Don’t pay it.

All of the NCP controlled station car parks with ANPR cameras on the entrance and exit now have a 20 minute window for drop offs and pick ups, after that you pay the day rate, Im a contractor on the Underground and have learned this the hard way.

The only way round it is to enter your reg details and then tick the disabled option, no wardens go in these car parks to check if your displaying a disabled badge or put tape over your reg plate. That’s what we have to do when we’re working on a station with these poxy car parks.

I think if there are grounds for appeal a demolished motor is one.

Why did the dick head Warden stick one on when they must have obviously seen the state of it ???

Good luck mate.

sympathise totally, but it is worth remembering that although we can argue that the motor was crunched and maybe the damage was so great the ticket guy shouldnt have issued..... it was in fact driven to the car park, not towed and dumped.

Ergo you are a driver parking your car on their property.

I'd quickly appeal though and see where that gets you, before paying.
Fingers crossed you get off as these ANPR cameras are a real pain.
good luck mate
