What’s the score here then?

Benched previously with Dubai Joel inexplicably picked ahead of him
Back on the pitch to full effect
Then not in the squad
Returns, benched and now “ill” over Easter.

I’ve noted my conspiracy theory before about it being a Contract issue and maybe appearances triggering some sort of entitlement; that was shot down. I’m hearing rumours of him being homesick but why would that stop you being selected, especially in our current squad??

Hope he does just have a touch of Peggy Sue and will return plus be playing next season. I quite like him as a CB, reads game well and dominating in the air. He can play a bit too and would look better with a bit of pace playing next to him (thinking Dunne / Ned).

He seems like the right sort but I think the Championship is a level above his ability, similar to Bidwell. Both could get by in League 1 but the Championship is too quick with too many pacy attackers for them to get by week in week out, other than when we get a lead and can sit 9 behind the ball.

Hasn't showed real leadership on the pitch and if on wages rumoured to be on, sure we could get better from League 1 or 2.

Tosh. Shown lots of leadership. Always organising the team, is the one to often get the team to celebrate together. He’s comfortably our best centre half. Our record with him is better than without him. He’s bossed many a forward including Troy Deeney, excluding Tammy Abraham in one game. If League 1 is his league then Joel should be in National North.

There certainly seems to be something going on. I don't see how it's a contract thing because he signed a three year deal. I don't know how you look at our centre back options at the moment and don't have Leistner as your first pick.

Excluding Tammy Abraham in one game? Do you go to away games?

to be fair Tammy Abrahams, despite being a Chelscum twunt at heart is a level above requirements for the Championship and will in the top flight next season.

Were it not for Villa's deep pockets he would have been this year and was wanted by Wolves in the New Year window; getting skinned by him isn't the worst thing on a CV for a CB this season at this level.

Toni has a lack of pace but is far from our worst option

For goodness sake Joel, wind it in will ya?

Couldn't resist a dig at your old mate Bidwell either, could you?

He's not fit and has been carrying several injuries for some time apparently. Has tried to play through it and hasn't worked. He was benched because he wasn't fully fit, then played with the injuries, then ill but it does seem that he hasn't been a 100% for some time. Not sure about transfer speculation but all I've heard is that he's got several injury issues that haven't cleared. Fully fit I think he walks into the starting 11. Or hobbles at least.

Never knowingly right.

Seeing Toni at Loftus Road is a totally different experience to seeing him away from home, you really should try it.

You have zero credibility when it comes to judging the performances of centre-backs.

The Leistner situation is a strange one, but at this point maybe they thought he'd benefit from a break, especially if he's been carrying the odd niggling injury. He's by far and away our best CB though, in a season where I think we've had about 7 CB combinations in front of an inexperienced keeper with varied full backs.

Looking at it, he has played 44 games this season compared to between around 25-32 games the last few seasons in Germany. A place where he also gets a winter break thrown in. Maybe he is just simply spent? Get him up to speed again for next season and he's an automatic pick for me.

If he is homesick then questions need to be asked about why so many of our foreign players get like that because something is going wrong

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

I agree with this.

I see all these comments around who we should get rid of. The bigger question is who and how are we going to replace them. We may strike lucky with someone out of contract somewhere who is prepared to fit into our wage structure, but that may prove very difficult to achieve. Similarly there may be some gems from lower divisions, but again it is scouting them and convincing them to join - if they are that good they may have their sights set higher. Joining QPR is no longer the attraction that it was.

Leistner is under contract and our player. Get him fit and get him in the team. I'd like to see him and Furlong start as our CB pairing next season.

I wonder if our club is better or worse than others in that regard. It does seem to have happened quite a lot over the last 4-5 years but I don't remember it being a long term problem

I actually go and watch all our games and base my opinions on what I see, not who I, or others, may or may not like.

I thought our defence would improve considerably with Bidwell out of the team and it has. I saw Toni at WBA and every game since and thought he would struggle at this level with the pace but more so the movement as he is prone to ball-watching and his reaction time is too slow.

I hope I'm proved wrong, but just because he's a decent pro and has a ready made nickname, does n't mean he's anymore equipped to keep us in this Division than Ferdinand is as a DoF.

Been going on a while though hasn't it. The only club that could pick up an Aussie and find he couldn't settle in the Bush (Ned).

On Toni I agree with others that think he's our best option. Has his limitations but of the centre backs available I'd say he's the most important. A season adjusting to Championship Football and seeing what's required at this level, I think he'll return much improved 'if' he's still with us next season.

I've seen every game this season too, although less away than previous years, I would say I've seen around 60-80% of games live. Hence how I know, using my eyes, that Lynch has been consistently shit or injured for 3 years.

Not sure if the 20-40% of games you did'nt see live were in September to December, when Lynch was the keyman in our team that put enough points on the board to see us stay in the Division.

Either way, if it was my money, I'd break the bank to keep Cameron as was outstanding at Centre Half on Saturday and injury free could form a decent partnership with Furlong.

I would be very worried if we go into next season with Toni as first choice Centre Half and Club captain, but would love to be proved wrong as he gives his all, so don't like to criticise him. But like Washington trying hard doesnt mean you can cut it in the Championship.
