Ajax 20:30 - Apr 30 with 6082 viewsHayesender

Absolutely bossing spurs at their shiny new stadium. A real shame this Ajax team is gonna be broken up in the summer.

They're a wee bit special

Spurs really missed Son tonight, they had nothing up front

I think people are underestimating just how good this Ajax team is- they’ve now completely played Real Madrid, Juventus and Spurs off the park.

They’ll take some stopping. Ajax vs Barcelona final please.

They play some lovely football, looked very dangerous on the break and battered Tottenham for the first 30 minutes, but a Tottenham side including Son, should be a different proposition. They had nothing up front last night, meaning they couldn't play their normal game with Ajax's defence not getting dragged about and having to watch runs. They missed Winks in midfield too. Tottenham had by far the better of the second half, even if Ajax had the best chance when they hit the post. If Tottenham can get the first goal in Amsterdam, then they should be less susceptible to Ajax catching them on the break. Also Pochettino will have learnt from his tactical mistake in the first half, when Spurs were completely overrun in midfield. I'm probably wrong, but I reckon it's far from over, although it could have been by half-time last night.

I agree with this. I think that they'll be reasonably happy with a 1-0 defeat given how things started and also Ajax had a week to prepare whereas Spurs had a London derby against West Ham at the weekend and of course no Son or Kane in the squad. Don't think Janssen is in their Euro squad either, although no great loss.

They'll probably only have two fit centre backs so 3-5-2 or whatever it was won't be possible in the second leg.

Apparently Kane is back running again so it wouldn't be a shock to see him on the bench next week. Ajax might just end up regretting their lack of ambition in the second half - another goal would have killed it and they wasted time when in many respects it was as good as it gets for them. Spurs don't look in great form though - so many bad crosses and set pieces. I doubt that the second leg wil be dull - just like the City-Spurs game - but it's a hard one to call.

Ajax certainly showed what you can do without a whole lot of money if you put your mind to it.

Spurs looked just as toothless in their last two league games with Son vs Brighton and West Ham. In fact, they’ve lost 4 of their last 5 games and were lucky to get a late winner vs Brighton.

Ajax didn’t play as gung-ho in the second half as they were defending a lead. But they still had the best chance when they hit the post.

Maybe it’s far from over but I still don’t fancy Spurs chances based upon current form and what I’ve seen from Ajax so far in the tournament.

Still, nicely poised for the second leg and should be a cracking game.

Yep the tie isn't over yet, only one goal in it. Although I had to laugh at the images of Spurs fans in the ground last night who looked like it was the end of the world.

They should pose more of a goal threat with Son back, the question is whether they can prevent Ajax scoring again.

According to Albion and Tottenham mates, Albion played for a 0-0 all the way through, wasted time from the off and played most of the game with all 11 players behind the ball. Difficult for most sides to score in those circumstances. They've not been in good form, but did still manage to get the result at Man City. They will need to be much better than they were last night, but Son is a huge player for them and could make all the difference.

Elhoop - Trippier seems to have completely lost his confidence. I've seen him a few times recently and his defending and set pieces have absolutely gone to pot.

Ajax are the top-scorers in all European leagues, so it is likely that they will score in Amsterdam. What a wonderful team and had they stepped up a gear they would have won that match 3-0.

Agree with the lack of legs.

Such a small squad was always going to tire going into the business end of the season.

That said, I still fancy Spurs to at least turn up fr the second leg and with a quick away goal anything can happen.

Also, Trippier had a complete stinker last night and all they could fall back on was throwing on two new full backs when they were chasing the game.

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

I was at the Brighton game and spurs looked clueless. They ran out of ideas very quickly and needed a long range Eriksen goal to rescue the win.

They miss Kane which is understandable. Maybe Ajax will suit Son’s style if they play attacking football as it will leave space in behind for Son to hit.

But I still think if Ajax turn up they’ll play Spurs off the park.

Trippier wasn't the only one - I thought that Alli was poor too.

If I were an Ajax fan then I'd be pretty confident, but Spurs didn't get this far without being able to regroup.

Clutching at straws here but our wonderful 1970's side was preceded by an even more wonderful young Ajax side that introduced total football to the world.

History repeating itself? Probably not.

Only the first bit Steve!

This Ajax side remind me a lot of the Dutch Masters when they first won the Euro Cup. That season they also won in Lisbon after Benfica (then a top side) had won 3-1 in Amsterdam.

Why? Historically when the final was still played in midweek it was more often than not played the last Wednesday in May. When Ajax first won it in 1971 at Wembley, the final was played on the 2nd of June.

They'll definitely score but they also concede.

El Khayati has scored against them this season (in fact he has 18 goals and 11 assists) so if Spurs do open up then it's not going to be a 0-0 draw. I'd definitely fancy both teams to score and Spurs very rarely lose by more than one goal - so this is going to be close.

I thought that Ajax were very good until they scored but thereafter they looked like what they were - supremely talented novices. The game was there for the taking but they froze somewhat, playing some long balls into Spurs' centre-backs, playing too narrow at times, lacking their usual incredible pressing and movement off the shoulder. Still great to watch at times, but nowhere near their best.

If they recover their best form, they'll finish off Spurs with ease. If they play with the hesitation they showed in the second half Spurs still have a chance.

The big football question for me was why the fcuk were Ajax playing in that dodgy UPS delivery driver/ Brentford away kit?

Sissoko made a big difference though - apart from the change in formation he also got amongst them and had a very good game. Physicality was one of Spurs' best weapons against City and might prove equally as important over there. I would assume that Sissoko will start next week and he'll be as important as Son.
