Summer Transfers 10:49 - May 30 with 130514 viewsderbyhoop

There's always lots of speculation, 90% generated by agents. Might be good to have 1 thread.

I don't understand the speculation that has linked us with Adam Matthews from Sunderland, Adam Maher from AZ Alkmaar and Liam Kelly from Livingstone.
Matthews is a RB where we have Furlong, Rangel and Kakay
Maher is a midfielder where, even if Freeman goes, we're not short of options.
Kelly is a keeper. We have Lumley, Ingram and Dieng, unless the latter goes to Glasgow Rangers.

Whilst I’m in no way comparing the two, perhaps we should remember the first thing that’s guardiola did a at City was bomb out the popular, home grown Joe Hart and replace him with keepers who suited his style of play.
If this new manager wants to play out from the back(which honestly is probably one of the best ways to actually achieve something in this division) then it’s right that the club are backing him

Hart and Bravo/Ederson were vastly different types of keeper.... if Kelly is that much better than Lumley with his feet then fair enough but I doubt it somehow.

“Liam is outstanding with his feet, he has great distribution and he is a very good shot stopper,” Warburton said.

“Joe Lumley did exceptionally well for QPR last season so Liam’s job is to come here and compete. That’s what you want, you want competition all over the park.

“You have 24 or 25 competitive animals who are all keen to do well. You have to have that respectful competition for places.

“Liam will want that No.1 shirt, and Joe’s job will be to keep it and show what he can do.”

Agree......but he needs to be backed for longer than half a season. Or we are back to square one with players the new manager may not fancy.

or is it purely financial? Player comes in who's better than Ingram, Ingram goes out, but for a similar fee (if the £50k is true), then it might just be a shrewd move. Also, although Warbs is saying it's to compete with Lumley, if there is genuine interest in him and we sell for a few hundred grand, then it could be very good business.
It wasn't a priority position, but if you can improve for less money, then do it. Cesar was little or no improvement for a sh!t-ton of money in the same summer as we signed another keeper.
Of course, Kelly may not be an improvement!

Bare bones.

Like any decent manager does you build from the back , if Kelly is no 1 then I judge Warburtons judgment , Lumley is ok I’m not blown away by him so competition is a good thing

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

Or maybe he's off somewhere?

Or maybe Ingram is? Either because he wants out as he's not playing or the club wants rid because they don't think he's good enough.

More rumours

Jordan Cousins to Stoke - probably a good move for both parties.
Millwall interested in Big Posh Matt. If that comes to fruition we'll end up playing a 4-6-0 or 5-5-0 formation.

Late update - we are supposedly interested in London-born, John Maquis who scored 26 for Doncaster last year. Sunderland and Millwall also interested

So, we've got reinforcements at LB and Keeper. All good. Tick the relevant box and move on.

Please can we have some help at centreback? BFG is a, well, big fcuking German but there is only one of him and Grant Hall appears to be entirely constructed out of spun sugar and spaghetti. We could really use someone to give these two a hand.

If Giles Phillips is going to step up, then that would be a bit of a surprise based on how previous managers have ignored him. So, I would hope the next signing involves a hulking, barely hominid monster, fed exclusively on a diet of red meat and alcohol whose hobbies include heading, tackling and killing opposition forwards to death.

However, Bumjoy is still available. I mean, after he's finished his flower arranging class.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

No one saw the Bardet signing did they?

Apparently we are in for soon to be free agent Chuks Aneke:-

Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers are in the race to sign Milton Keynes Dons attacker Chuks Aneke on a free transfer.

Aneke, 25, came up through the Arsenal ranks, but after a series of loan spells and even a stint in Belgium with Zulte Waregem, he's really found a home with MK Dons, starring their League Two promotion campaign last season.

Aneke hit 17 league goals and 19 in all competitions last season, adding three assists too, and MK Dons have allegedly offered him a new deal given that he becomes a free agent in a matter of weeks.

A move to QPR would certainly make sense. They're unlikely to be big spenders, but they need striking options having lost loanees Nahki Wells and Tomer Hemed, whilst it would also be a return to London for Aneke — meaning a move to Loftus Road may be ideal for all.

Also this one is worth a look at, Ayr United striker Lawrence Shankland - i wonder why we aren't being linked? Hull Forest Leeds & Celtic are?

Promising player
According to The Scottish Sun, the youngster has scored 63 goals in 74 matches since joining Ayr in 2017.

The Scottish Sun has claimed that Championship trio Forest, Swansea and Hull are interested in securing the services of Shankland on a free transfer, and so are Sunderland, who are aiming to clinch promotion from League One.

Shankland is leaving Ayr United this summer, as the 23-year-old striker himself has revealed on Twitter.
Shankland is a very good striker, and at the age of 23, it is safe to assume that he can only improve in the coming years.

"A move to QPR would certainly make sense."

HITC language for "we've completely made this one up ourselves".

Point of interest. Joe Hart wasn't " home grown" at Man City. He was signed from Shrewsbury having played 50 odd times for them

Get West London do it as well. Everybody knows QPR are looking for a centre back. There's a centre back over there who's being linked with moves. = A QPR move would make sense.

Patrick Bauer who I'm sure we were at least tenuously linked to, has joined PNE on a free. We already have a BFG anyway

Poll: Moses Odubajo - Stick or Twist?

Is this now the thread for general transfers elsewhere too?

Matt Clarke to Brighton, £4m and Reece Brown to Huddersfield, 500k are a couple of players mentioned approvingly here who have moved on. Macauley Bonne for 200k to Charlton also looks nice.

Peterborough have been going on a proper spree this summer. Half a new team including Mo Eisa for over a million, plus a fee reportedly agreed for the very promising Sammie Szmodics at Colchester (will prob end up at Bristol City though). If MacAnthony could pick a manager like he can players they'd be deadly.

I'm also starting to wonder if Sheff Wed aren't worth a bet for play-offs next season given their Andrex puppy soft embargo. Bruce sorted the defence last season and he's still got an eye for a player - Odubajo and Kadeem Harris add pace to a slow side. With everyone else in turmoil and/or with plenty to do on the horizon they seem pretty settled.

Our Wednesday regular who we saw on the last day of the season says they've done a Derby and sold Hillsborough to the chairman. Just hasn't had the same coverage. So you might be right, if that's lifted their restrictions.

Amazing to think Ipswich released Matt Clarke and Adam Webster to go into last season with Nsiala as their main centre back.

They swapped Clarke for Webster and sold the latter for a much needed £4m but yeah, all very Jordan Rhodes it's true. We all thought it was canny stuff on here at the time!

Webster being linked with Villa for 12m today, probably just to pressure a fee for Mings but it would make sense. Hopefully them and Brentford will both be richer financially but poorer competitively by the end of summer.

Matt Clarke is a great signing but they did similar good looking business for Goldson a few years back and still ended up playing Dunk and Duffy only. My brother had a Pompey ST for a year while at Uni and used to rave about Clarke though so think he might do the business.

Posh look like they're really trying to get over the hump this time, Eisa looks a good one, exactly the kind of young cheap-ish striker they do bits with and then sell for £5m in a few seasons.

Goldson had over a year out with a heart defect. But yeah unless Clarke's a better passer than I took him for I don't see him displacing D&D for a while yet.

Funny how it's almost refreshing to see a Prem side buy squad depth from the lower leagues now though.

Millwall losing Morison (Shrewsbury) and Gregory (Stoke..!) this summer could be interesting if they don't get the replacements spot on. Could see Warbs open to letting Smith go if they still fancy him and want to loosen the pursestrings.
