Tory Leadership Race 09:57 - May 31 with 57708 viewsDorse

Not a party political thing or a reason for an LFW punch-up, but I keep having the eerie feeling that eventually every single Tory MP will put themselves forward leaving Teresa May with the casting vote. At which point, she cackles maniacally and slowly points at Jacob Rees Mogg sitting at the back, with the entire parliamentary party turning to stare at him... He is seen to gulp and mutter 'Oh, copulate my happenstance'

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

I’ve had a few quid on him as it would be quite a fitting way for this farce to continue.

13 people now in the race including Sam Gyimah (who?)
We’re nearly as ridiculous as the Democrats.

I follow a few history professors on twitter, and you will struggle to find a minister as reviled in their sector as Sam Gyimah is by even the mildest of academics. Talking Gove at Education levels of open warfare between the two

I can confirm that Gyimah very much belongs in the bin as far as anyone working in HE is concerned.

How many academics does it take to change a light bulb?

It depends on the size of the grant.

What Borris needs, and in fact we all need, is a 'letter of understanding' or something of that ilk, from of all people Trump.

Stating that he will give Boris, if he became prime minister, a very good trade deal with a few hints as to what.

It would make Europe think, and would help Boris even more, as the rest think this is their chance at glory, nothing less. Fecking McVey? Big mouth twa t with no real idea. lolololol

What is it about Donald Trump's "America First" policy and series of tariffs imposed on absolutely everyone in sight - including Mexico with whom he just concluded a trade deal less than a bloody year ago; including our aerospace industry until they pulled a nifty; and including our car industry - that makes you that he is interested in offering us anything?

Trump's definition of a good deal is a good deal for the USA, which is fair enough. A lot of the US industries he wants to protect are in direct competition with ours. Freebies are not on offer.

Mexico didn’t win the war though. That’s the difference.

WTO terms is far from a safety harness. If and when we leave it’s at that point that we are involved in a countless trade negotiations. What a surprise.

As leaders of our Country.
The alternative is Corbyn, that would be the worst day in our history.

whoever gets it will inherit a right mess, a massively divided country (predominantly over Brexit) and probably wont last very long either.

and the alternatives are all a bit scary too.

I still believe most people are fairly centrist - maybe bit blue side or a bit red side, but not particularly extreme. Right now both blue and red are being led down further left or right. And anyone who opposes that view is immediately dismissed as fake news rather than debated.

The majority of the runners and riders are definitely on the right wing side of Brexit - most seem happy with a hard Brexit even though 48% of the country voted to stay in.

for remainer, that is worrysome.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Warning Daily Mail link. I despise the Tories but listening to the candidates and do not want Mr Buffoon Boris Johnson in charge of the country. Gove appears to speak a lot of sense compared to the populism of those wanting to leave on a no deal.

You presumably haven’t spoken with many people who teach in British schools or work for local authorities, or the NHS, or the Police, or the courts, or the prison service, in the gig economy etc. Nor the huge numbers who rely on food banks or live in appalling housing conditions. Relative to many countries around the world, we have it good, but the fabric of our country is rotting away and inequalities are growing. For one of the wealthiest countries in the world, it’s saddening to see public institutions functioning pretty much on the goodwill of public servants and volunteers.

And that’s before we even touch of a dysfunctional parliament with a comically inept government and pis s poor opposition.

Gove would be a disaster for the Tories and that's what appeals to Remainers and Labour supporters. To say a General Election would hand power to any other side is just defeatist.

What he's saying is he'd lead a Tory party that, in his words, would be frightened of a General Election, the mans not fit for office.

As I've said before, Boris puts the shíts up the opposition. Truth is, if he's PM and calls a GE on a no deal ticket, Labour will get spanked. End of Corbyn, goodnight Momentum.
