France v Nigeria pen x 2?
Got to love all that, you VAR fans?
Ref calls no foul, VAR says it is, ref goes to monitor - (correctly) awards pen and cautions defender (DOGSO in the pen area) - its her 2nd caution so off she goes. France miss (ball hits outside of post) pen but VAR spots GK's back foot about 2 inches off the line. Books GK (correctly) and France score retake, despite encroachment of attackers (that VAR doesn't look at unless players interfere.)
Now all the above perfectly correct in law, but both initial foul and GK 'encroachment' not possible to spot with naked eye.
Add to that, the time from the foul to Nigeria kicking off after the goal was EIGHT minutes and that's why I'm not a fan of VAR!
Sorry if this has been said before and I missed it , but what happened to "clear and obvious error".

VAR in the Scotland game a real farce. Pity about the missing minutes at the end too, it looked like we might get a punch-up.
I watched the last couple of minutes and it did seem a bit of a joke. But if the keeper moved off the line,it has to be retaken. The jocks wouldn’t have moaned about the lack of time added on if they’d missed the penalty, and they were wasting time delaying the penalty being taken.

The funny thing was both teams were complaining at full time because it knocked them both out.

I flicked back to the England game and missed the ending of the game.I did see a few players surrounding the ref. I thought they said that Argentina aren’t definitely out yet.

The referee lost the plot. It appeared as if she ended the game early because she was afraid of losing control. Given the stoppages for the penalty, the retake and the two VAR consultations there should have been at least another four minutes.
In some ways I don't blame her, the use of VAR has been a farce throughout the competition and, arguably, the blow-back on officials has been worse than the players. FIFA has publicly given no clear directives on how it should be used, and it appears the players and officials are as much in the dark as spectators.

Don't think that true.
Its clear we using 19/20 laws and VAR - hence you get the GKs being pulled up.
You either use VAR (which I hate) or you don't.
Not FIFA's fault playes/pundits haven't read new laws. Clearly they haven't as every drop ball I've seen in this tournament, the ref has had to explain to the player, 'No, you don;t have to kick the ball back to oppo, just play on!' That's just one example.

The most ridiculous one I saw last night was the ball hitting the ref.It now has to be given back to the team that had it last. I suppose if it stops lee mason scoring a goal for Man Utd it won’t be a bad thing.

I don't mind THAT one tbf - it is the fairest way to do it.
Also other drop balls - if play is stopped for an injury for example, are also to be given to the player that had the ball when play stopped.
Will stop all this kicking the ball 70 yards back to the GK malarkey!

So England will play Cameroon in the second round. Hope they don't take the Bobby Robson approach of writing them off as as nothing more than a Bye to the next round.
I watched their highlights against NZ this morning and have to say Ajara Nchout looks like one of the best individual players I've seen in this tournament. Quality goals.

This may need to go into the 'Women You Fancy But Probably Shouldn't' thread but I think I am developing strong feelings for England centreback Millie Bright. So wrong, and yet...

Just arrived at the Stade De Alpes in Grenoble for the Germany / Nigeria game with my daughter, last minute why not sort of thing. Anyway EUR 6.50 for an alcohol free pint, not a great start. Those crappy plastic bottles of Calsberg at HQ seem rather appealing right now.

She's Chelsea Dorse, pull yourself together for God's sake.

I guess I won’t be drinking much on Thursday night then.

Exceptionally. Package it with Scotch football and give it its own obscure digital channel. (Jonathan “JP” Pearce obviously sees a buck or two in it for him).

Nadeshiko Japan going out is a bit of a choker. They play a sort of clockwork football, they have to bring the ball down and pass as other teams are much taller. They had much the better chances in the second half.

I suggest you watch it properly and enjoy some of the technique and skill on display. There's no point comparing it to the men's game because the sheer physicality of it makes it quite different. Just enjoy it for what it is.

Yeah real shame that, Japan probably deserved but didn't take their chances. The Holland pen was somewhat fortunate and harsh on Japan, I suppose to the letter of the law you have to give it but I still ask at such close proximity how the defender is supposed to get her arm out of the way?

That one is down to change in handball law.
No longer has to be deliberate in certain circumstances, including if defender's actions makes him/her unnaturally bigger.
Even refs arguing over this one, and I can see why, but under strict letter of new law this is handball.

Exactly what handball is is becoming a great mystery. I just get a horrible sinking feeling whenever one is awarded in this competition.
