Never been one to want an armed force but we have now reached a stage where the 'scum bags' rule our streets, both city and country.

My brother is a serving officer and cannot say we as youngsters were ever what you might call 'angels' but the 'plod' always got the respect they deserved.

If not arming the police a 'National Guard' that can be brought in to deal with the 'big boys',drug dealers and organised crime groups no matter what 'community' they base their dishonest, murderous activities in.

The NG can be highly trained, armed if need be but go in places and ask questions after
rounding up whoever falls within their net.

Sorry not the place to really vent my anger but though the boys in blue have not always made themselves at all lovable its now reaching a stage where all respect has gone completely and why anyone would want their job must really see things so so differently to what I see.

That’s the trouble with the digital age we live in , everything has to be transparent and recorded, everyone has a video camera . They know the police can’t do much so don’t care

I long for the good old days when you could end up in the back of a transit or Bedford getting the absolute sh!t kicked out of you just for mouthing off.

That might learn these little w@nkstaines a bit of respect

We were sitting on the wall at the end of Loftus road before last Saturday’s game, and we caught the back end of some sort of heated debate involving 2 coppers and a black guy.
I thought they were just talking but I heard the bloke say to them “what did you stop me for then?”
As he was walking away he called them fools just loud enough for them to hear.
Back they came for another heated chat.
I guess there was wrong on both sides, but if that’s how people talk to each other now no wonder there are so many problems on the streets.

I could never be a copper in a million years if that’s what they have to deal with on a daily basis.

I am not in disagreement for non armed street cops but Taser's could be a more routine part of daily equipment, maybe not 100% non lethal but I think you would be unlucky to be killed if getting a charge.

That's why I think a National Guard would be more than handy at times, you have armed responce teams now but a few more groups even more highly trained to go in without arms but other means of defence, can be used in situations were violent and other lethal types are known to be gathering.

Pretty sure if Cardiff/Millwall types, demos where violent agitation is high on the list as examples, having a section of the NG waiting in place might just keep the confrontations to words and hand signals.

respect for all public officials has gone out of the window, not just the police. I cannot understand how firemen or ambulances/nurses & doctors get attacked. What sort o special hatred do you have to have to do so?

but even at lower levels, its not just physical violence. I work for a Council, and some of the e-mails I get can take their toll - and Im not just talking about trolling or keyboard warriors, but the constant lack of empathy hat I could in any way be a human being - being called an idiot, a liar etc. just because I wont (or more likely cant) do what someone wants. But rather than sound a bit snowflakey, we had a member of staff threatened with a knife this week.

Selfish is the new black.

Arming coppers never works and crime will always be prevalent in unequal societies.

Low Inequality = Low Crime
High Inequality = High Crime

although the prison service needs massive reform first because at the moment, those sent to prison are far more likely to re-offend, which gets us no-where except a vicious circle.

Most criminals I've known became criminals because they worked out that crime had a better rate of hourly pay than the type of conventional 9 to 5 job they could hold down.

The kid who can't be bothered to lift a finger at school, who goes onto get expelled, who quickly realises that his own actions have left him with the option of £8.00 an hour at Tesco's for life or selling drugs to make a living, you must explain to me exactly how you would solve this type of inequality which has been totally self inflicted.

Tell them you'll raise the minimum wage, they'd laugh in your face.
Tell them to knuckle down and study, you'll get the same reaction.

Sometimes you have to realise politics doesn't hold the answers, that sometimes we just have a number of wrong'uns in society who need to be dealt with.

At last the answer: once everyone is on £50k a year problem solved.(sigh)

Inequality can be looked upon in so many ways there is no easy solution to just how to resolve the hatred and bitterness between the folk of this land.

Personally, life is in many ways much more equal nowadays than mine was growing up in the 60's, two kids both gone through Uni, both with Masters, that from a father that left school at 15 with a swimming certificate as my only recognition of 11 years of state education.

Always will be a certain amount of inequality, that doesn't give you the right to murder & maim the good people in many of our public services, respect has to be earned but also taught, the complete lack comes mainly down to such extremely bad parenting that I wonder how many of the so called 'disadvantaged' would have survived the bad old days of the 60's & 70's.

I am and always will be to the left of center in my views but I cannot just take it on the chin that politics alone is to blame, society of current generations wants wants wants but is not prepared to get their hands dirty in reaching for the heights of a better life,

Much easier being a 'star' after running half naked round a island for a few weeks, this is so much better than giving respect to teachers nurses, doctors, police officers and so many other hard workingl folk in this country who try to make life so much better for the majority of us.

Johnson and is ilk won't really do buggar all for the majority, but then he's got 'spinning' off to a fine art, and that is what seems to impress more than any deeds that he's really got lined up for most of us.

Doubt it will ever get to the point of being able to walk down the street in the early hours without some trepidation in many places for a lot of people, but lets hope future generations are taught that respect is not a dirty word when it comes to many of our pulic servants.

He was born in a industrial Coal mining town in one of the poorest states in America. Hope that qualifies him!

Plus he’s hardly the latest. His first paper was in 1952!

But this is political. It always is.
I am all for more prisons and tougher sentences as long as we have reform so, they don't come back in. Otherwise, this is being irresponsible with the finite monies we have. I keep telling those on the right that there is no magic money tree for all these "hang em high" polices, but they don't listen. It's all spending spend spend. But that is the problem with the whinging right, total lack of responsible leadership. No idea of how to manage the economy! Thatcher while alive loved Blair and Brown as they were really Tories, thus proving we once again cannot trust any right-wing policies with the economy.

Yet they tell me that a socialist govt in power there would be a run on the pound, govt spending would be over promised from the magic money tree, the state would be more interventionist in messing with small Business like draconian IR35 taxes and not being responsible with the economy on creating trading agreements with countries trading block just because they are capitalists.

Oh wait that's what tory Boris has just done.
Whinging right again it seems, snowflakes the lot of them!

Whenever you get opportunity then you'll get inequality. Oppotunity is the chance to do better for yourself. Some take it and some don't unfortunately.

The only way to eliminate inequality is to remove incentive to do better. Venezuela (Corbyn's desired economic model) and North Korea have done it, but I don't think it's a better place to live really.

They were a hard working, homogeneous and peaceful group of people with high productivity. I expect things to change dramatically in the next 20 years or so, particularly in Sweden. They've already made massive cuts to their welfare and pensions.

I see you edited to try to pretend Corbyn didn't praise the economy of Venezuela for years

Respect for the police went years ago. When Mrs May was Home Secretary she hated them and she messed around with pensions and pay and conditions and people didn’t want to work as police officers anymore or join.
Senior police officers that run their forces/ services have no experience in doing the job and a lot of the recent ones have joined on a accelerated promotion scheme where they could have been a manager in a supermarket a year ago.
Police officers are scared of doing their own job properly because they know they won’t have any support from senior officers or the federation.
These days only 25-30% are actually doing uniform police work on a team working out of a police station.
When they had a recruitment campaign years ago lots of females joined but they have now left because they have started families or they are in offices .
Starting pay to be a officer these days is about £26k. That’s to work in London , where you have to pay to travel to work everyday, also your unable to get home if your shift finishes after midnight.
Senior officers get a driver, so if they did leave late, it wouldn’t affect them.
The pension scheme has now changed which means you have to work till your over 60 to get a full pension, can you imagine doing a bleep test at 60.
There are very few serving officers that enjoy doing the job because of paperwork, support and the court system and cps being useless.
I was in it for years and thank god im out of it. Got my pension and did my bit for society when we ran the country and not the scum criminals that we have today.
I feel so sorry for the family and colleagues of Pc Harper. trying his best to stop possibly 10 “ traveller types” stealing . It’s disgusting that it happened but it shouldn’t have been allowed to happen
