Never been one to want an armed force but we have now reached a stage where the 'scum bags' rule our streets, both city and country.

My brother is a serving officer and cannot say we as youngsters were ever what you might call 'angels' but the 'plod' always got the respect they deserved.

If not arming the police a 'National Guard' that can be brought in to deal with the 'big boys',drug dealers and organised crime groups no matter what 'community' they base their dishonest, murderous activities in.

The NG can be highly trained, armed if need be but go in places and ask questions after
rounding up whoever falls within their net.

Sorry not the place to really vent my anger but though the boys in blue have not always made themselves at all lovable its now reaching a stage where all respect has gone completely and why anyone would want their job must really see things so so differently to what I see.

Sorry, no offence but liberal luvvies conducting studies from posh postcodes seldom know better than those that live and breathe the streets every day.

How did Norway and the Scandi countries (who Corbyn / Labour actually derive their economic strategy from) achieve their equal, low crime, high income societies in your opinion Clive?
[Post edited 16 Aug 2019 18:40]

If true, a ridiculous strategy. Quite apart from being very different cultures, the UK has a population of 67 million compared to 9 million in Sweden and 5 million in Norway. The numbers alone tell you it's impossible to emulate the same high income society and that's before you even consider how to alter the mindset of people that make a lifestyle choice to live on welfare or turn to crime.

Point taken but same difference. On the whole politicians, regardless of their political persuasion, don't really understand choices made on the streets. The reality is there's a whole plethora of reasons; inequality may play a small part but it's doesn't tell the complete story.

If you say so Clive. Agree with the data or don't it's up to you.

He analysed facts and figures. He found that the greater the level of inequality, the greater the level of crime. It's not an opinion. It's a fact.

Call me simple but those scumbags that control the drug gangs must be known to the police. They are the ones with blood on their hands and cause misery in terms of those who for some reason unbeknown only to themselves take drugs and for many will then steal and rob for their next fix. The drug culture is out of control and the only way is to cut off the head of the serpent. Round up the leaders and give them life in jail, and life means life. That surely would be incentive enough to deter those who may wish to fill their shoes.

Poll: Where will Clive put QPR in his new season preview

Agree with what though?

The graph shows South American and African countries have more inequality and more crime. That's not really a surprise is it?

There's not the same correlation in Europe looking at those graphs.

I don't think it's enough evidence for your lot to seize everyone's property and dole it out amongst your mates yet to be honest.

Well I'm interested in what you think Baz, not what some book says.

You can find an expert to agree with any opinion. If you can't take that and make a coherent argument out of it then it's worthless.

I think most people agree that all things being good, then an equal society is better. The argument is how best to get there or whether the pursuit of that will actually make things worse in the long run. You can't just assume your way is better (especially when it's tried it ends in complete disaster).

You've already decided (wrongly) what I think on most things Clive. Who am I to change your mind? Let's leave it there eh.

I'm asking you to explain and I'm open to change my mind actually. It would be great to be left wing, I've never had much money, so it would help me if it actually worked and you get to be the good guy too for some reason.

Sadly I just haven't found any logical reasoning behind it and was hoping you'd come up with the goods.

Respect for the police went years ago. When Mrs May was Home Secretary she hated them and she messed around with pensions and pay and conditions and people didn’t want to work as police officers anymore or join.
Senior police officers that run their forces/ services have no experience in doing the job and a lot of the recent ones have joined on a accelerated promotion scheme where they could have been a manager in a supermarket a year ago.
Police officers are scared of doing their own job properly because they know they won’t have any support from senior officers or the federation.
These days only 25-30% are actually doing uniform police work on a team working out of a police station.
When they had a recruitment campaign years ago lots of females joined but they have now left because they have started families or they are in offices .
Starting pay to be a officer these days is about £26k. That’s to work in London , where you have to pay to travel to work everyday, also your unable to get home if your shift finishes after midnight.
Senior officers get a driver, so if they did leave late, it wouldn’t affect them.
The pension scheme has now changed which means you have to work till your over 60 to get a full pension, can you imagine doing a bleep test at 60.
There are very few serving officers that enjoy doing the job because of paperwork, support and the court system and cps being useless.
I was in it for years and thank god im out of it. Got my pension and did my bit for society when we ran the country and not the scum criminals that we have today.
I feel so sorry for the family and colleagues of Pc Harper. trying his best to stop possibly 10 “ traveller types” stealing . It’s disgusting that it happened but it shouldn’t have been allowed to happen

Policing in this country fundamentally changed as a result of the Stephen Lawrence murder. The Police got such an almighty kicking from the Press, Politicians, the legal profession and the public in general that the Senior Police officers around the UK set out to change their forces into services, stop recruiting ex armed forces personnel and shift towards more graduates, females and ethnic minorities.

The Police did need to change but the change in attitude and ethos went too far. Senior Officers and their respective forces retreated within their shells and began not to support officers when they were complained about. As a result coppers feltbthat if they weren’t supported by their managers then why should they bother to get stuck in.

The upper echelons of the Police now want their officers to be seen dancing at Carnival and at Gay Pride marches because it sends out a good image of the modern police at a minimal cost. Meanwhile some forces take burglary reports over the phone! They’ve got their priorities all wrong.

Combined with underfunding of Prisons, Police, the criminal Justice system and staggering levels of bureaucracy and dreadful IT systems it’s all been a dreadful cocktail to promote lawlessness and a total lack of morale.

Ps. A by product of arming the Police would, in my opinion, be to, sadly, increase the suicide rate amongst officers, which is already shockingly high.

RIP PC Harper

Spot on. I also think some posters should have a long hard look at themselves with all of this left wing, right wing politics bollocks. This thread is about a poor bloke who was murdered for trying to do his job in answering someone's call for help.

Arming coppers never works and crime will always be prevalent in unequal societies.

Low Inequality = Low Crime
High Inequality = High Crime

Condolences to the family of the officer.
