And the winner is.....

Huddersfield, after a massive 3 league games of the season with them being just 3 points from a play off place.

Nuts.

Edit: So it turns out tonights game was a "Must Win"!

I caught the last few minutes of the match on TV. The commentators were pretty much saying he was going or gone. I thought it was a bit distasteful but it turns out they were right.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Not surprised - he had a tough job to take on, but there's been zero sign he's up to it.
Wonder if they'll ask Wagner back?

Bare bones.

Only played 3 games but could well do a Sunderland in going from the Premier league to League 1 in a couple of seasons. I think players think as they played in the Premier league they are too good for the championship and many get found out.

Wagner left of his own accord and is in charge of Schalke now so no.

He should've known as he was the one that's responsible in the main. Had a really odd recruitment strategy once they'd got promoted there, seemed to keep buying the same sorts of random players over and over.

Will be interesting to see what direction they go in now. They've already started to move away from the extremist Dortmund model with Elphick and good signings from the lower leagues like Grant, Koroma, Brown plus they've some good kids on the fringes like Daly.

Hughton seems an obvious enough bet. There may be more progressive candidates abroad but they need stabilising first.

Think it was more a medium-term bet on him reviving them over the summer. But they look just as bad at a lower level so cheerio.

15 of the 19 were when they were already bottom of the PL to be fair.

No point starting with him if you're going to sack him in the middle of August

God it's seriously bad to be promoted to the Prem. You fight hard for a whole season you garner sufficient points and make it to the top table. That's when the real struggle begins.

No matter how good you think you are the big teams come to your place and take away 3 points. All the other teams think they could get positive results from you.

Somehow in the first year you manage to avoid the dreaded drop, in the following the fight continues relentlessly, you cant afford the top players, you lose your best players to others teams.

Like Sisyphus and his rock, you push and push and push and you know have to do it all over again when you reach the top.

I actually like Huddersfield. They are a small team, from a small town with a nice stadium and they play in blue and white at home. What's not to like.
I visit the town and have seen them play often.

I wish them the best this season but not on 8th Feb 2020

I can't go along with this.

The business model for clubs promoted from the Championship is now clear, in very large part due to our own ineptitude:

Don't run out to frantically buy a 'Premier' team. Think of it that you are just strengthening your Championship side, with appropriate near-Championship transfer fees and salaries.
TV income while in the Premier plus parachute payments will cover your costs even if you can't stay up. After one season in the Premier, you'll either still be there with a team that isn't haemorrhaging money or you'll be relegated with a team that is at least as strong as that that got you promoted, plus with a guaranteed medium-term cash flow that will be the envy of all but the recently relegated.

Yes agree with that plus they have a real history and tradition in the game with an FA Cup and three consecutive league titles, albeit in the twenties. They have been managed by Herbert Chapman and Bill Shankly and Dennis Law and Ray Wilson played for them.
