Bolton, with only three senior players available have postponed their match with Doncaster scheduled for tomorrow. This won't go down well with the EFL, but it's anout time the EFL took responsibilty for what is happening to some of the clubs under its umbrella. They'll probably just punish Bolton and wash their hands of it.

It would've looked far less shambolic if they'd just kicked Bury and Bolton out in the summer.

Using the excuse that it’s too much for the youngsters, more likely they don’t want another tonking.

Don’t worry. We’ve got the Salford City Red Devil’s of 92 now. We don’t need Bury or Bolton and all their history anymore

They should put some money aside to rescue clubs like this to help get them back on their feet. Get a league administrator running them on low costs until a decent buyer is found or they are breaking even and give it to the supporters trust.

Isn't the situation at Bolton that their "acceptable" takeover can't go ahead, because that erse Bassini maintains that he still has a legally binding agreement for him to purchase?

Bolton on 22:53 - Aug 19 with 3519 viewsClive_Anderson

Can't those stingy tw@ts up the road at City and United bung the trust a hundred grand each?

Almost a rounding error for them and would more than pay for itself as a good bit of PR.

Phil gartside ran them into the ground. Punching above their weight. Same as Tony with us for his first few years. Can't be bailing out clubs like that. Blackpool on the other hand were asset stripped. Feel for them and they would be worthy of a fund

In all cases it’s he supporters who ultimately suffer, and that’s why I think they all deserve our solidarity.

I feel sorry for the supporters but the EFL can’t just dish out cash willy nilly to clubs who are mismanaged. Not sure what the answer is

The FL have in place a Fit and Proper Persons rule that they seem to totally ignore. Therefore a lot of the responsibility is theirs for allowing asset strippers and not doing their job either due to laziness or corruption. Suspect the first..

Bolton Wanderers going under whilst dozens of cloggers gets 10k a week to sit on the bench in the championship. Got to love football. Gareth Bale was offered more than a million a week to play in China ffs.

On the other hand Bolton had many years in the PL earning 90 million plus a year, maybe some should have been put away for a rainy day!

Bolton not a club I feel any warmth towards, Bury much more so.

The situation for both is an absolute scandal and more shame for Shaun Harvey and his cronies.
It’s a fate that will befall many more in the near future and I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them was us.

Meanwhile all the focus today is Pogba missing a penalty; this news doesn’t even register on Sky’s football App and way down the list on BBC
Against Modern Football

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Desperately sad situation for both clubs. I remember reading a piece with Gartside, where he was arguing there needed to be a PL2 to protect clubs like Bolton who might fall out of the Premier League. He was also arguing that ticket prices couldn't be too high as stadiums were sold out in the PL. Not a bloke I had much sympathy for, but he's no longer with us and as always, it's the supporters and back room staff who suffer.

I hope something can be sorted out, but given any fu cker with £300 on a credit card and a pending case for fraud, can pass the Fit and Proper test, they'll probably be "rescued" by some local property developer or Belize-based Investment Fund Manager and then back in the same boat in 12 months time.

Considering the amount of money/hassle that's entailed in running a lower division club, it takes a specific sort of person to want to get involved. You have to pray for a civic-minded supporter or wealthy individual with a few bob to emerge or for a Supporters Trust to get their hands on the club.

I know there were plenty of sh its running clubs in the old days, but with so much money sloshing around at the top of the game, it's horrible seeing clubs struggling so badly lower down the league. But then, you can't just give out cash to the sh ithouse owners at clubs like Bolton and Bury, so I'm bugg ered if I know what the answer is. Shaun Harvey going is probably a decent start, though.

Yeh Bolton are the epitome of a club that didn't mend the roof when the sun was shining. Multiple consecutive Premier League seasons and TV payments, a couple of European campaigns, and yet actually racked up about £200m of debt doing it. I remember Gartside banging on about his PL2 idea - that was pretty transparent, basically knew they were one poor season and relegation away from the sht, which is exactly what happened.

The league are now paying the price for their shambolic, can kicking approach to running their competition, led from the front by Harvey. They waved the Anderson/Holdsworth takeover through even though they freely admitted at the time it was done on a £4m loan, with punitive interest rates, that was due to be repaid 12 months later. What sort of proof of fund is that? Even before we get into the previous times Anderson had bankrupted companies/himself. But, you know, wave him through, Bolton off the agenda, another problem kicked down the road.

Seems unfair BUry have been treated differently to Bolton, though I suspect the difference lies partly in the size and also partly in the opwnership of Bury basically trying to pull a fast one.

Think PLayers, employees and supporters all suffering to some degree, especially in the Bury case. Surprised they've not all moved on tbh.

Not sure if they're able or not.

Debbie Jevans currently interim EFL boss was interviewed in The Times on Saturday, fundamentally she said "sorry chaps, but not our fault"

With little view or ideas how to improve or resolve this at all.

My nieces husband is a lifelong Bury supporter. Goes to every match with his dad which has shaped his whole life- in his job he could be working elsewhere for more money but the ties that bind you etc. He is devastated and does not think there is any way back. Gutting to watch.

I can't understand why the Nevilles didn't get involved with Bury rather than Salford. They're from Bury and their Dad's a Bury fan.

If only every club had a Steve Gibson or a Dick Knight/Tony Bloom.

Not a bad idea or alternatively, they could have a bond type system like the Canadian government insist on for mining operations; it's called a "reclamation bond" or "reclamation security".

The way it could work in football is that a prospective owner would need to put up a standard amount of money as a bail-out fund prior to their purchase being approved. That fund would be controlled by the Football League and made available to the club - not the owner - via an independent administrator in the event of bankruptcy.

That's my first take on it, after a full ten minutes of pondering it (dons tin hat, retreats to foxhole, primes claymores)....

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
