Favourite Cheese 15:39 - Sep 9 with 4147 viewsBrianMcCarthy

Time we resurrected one of our favourite threads.

I was told I was lactose-intolerant (among other intolerances) many years ago and had to cut out all cheese. Now, as a result of minding myself and my diet for years I can eat cheese again.

So, currently in the Pyrenees, I’m enjoying a glass of Corbieres and some Roquefort. Amazing combination.

I’m saying it now. Roquefort is my favourite.

Mind you, I’m now able to sample the LFW suggestions!

Am I the only one who hates cheese? When I say cheese, I mean lumps of cheese. Melted cheese on a pizza don’t count, as the other stuff on there masks it.

I bloody hate cheese.

No, you are not alone.

Cheese is awful, vile, stinky, bacteria ridden muck.

Each to their own and all that but I’ve never trusted a cheese lover. From their pompous, condescending manner when they hear I don’t like their favourite delicacy to their stinky breath and churning innards.

ALL cheese is cack infested, puss filled excrement.

Boll0cks to cheese.

Apart from cheese on a pizza which is tasteless and lovely.

Or, somebody cruelly hypnotised you when you were younger to make you think that? That's surely the most logical explanation i can see...

Clearly, cheese reigns supreme.

I went off Port Salut for a while but got some on offer last week. Was rather nice.

Leerdammer is similar to Jarlsburg I seem to remember. Has a nice nutty flavour.

We were in France for our summer hols, and never mind the cheese, the general quality of food there is on a different level to what we get in the UK.

Vintage crumbly, crackly Cheddar. At least gas mark 6/7 strong so it makes your teeth itch.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

Cyprus goats cheese,
Haloumi,
Spanish Manchego,
If you go to Crete and are a cheese lover you must try Staka cheese soup.

Yeah I was there a couple of years ago and the fresh produce in shops was incredible. Over here we seem to have prioritised convenience over quality. Although having said that we’ve always had a funny attitude to food and it’s much better than it used to be.

In any case we’re very good at cheese!

I live in a bit of a French cheese hotbed so spoiled on that front; but I've just had my first religious fromage experience. Cailladou - do whatever it takes to get your hands on it.

Cheese is a c unt if you ask me, I hate the stuff passionately, by mistake one day I accidentally ambled into a cheese market somewhere in bloody France and went berserk attacking the French cheese stall holders with my size 11 hob nail boots.
How the f uck can anyone eat something that not only bloody stinks but has gone off?

I ate a bag of Wotsits one evening and had the biggest effing nightmare that night, bolox to that.

Cheese? no, stop it.

Wrong.

For the sake of blue-veined harmony (which doesn’t sound quite right but anyway)

I used to be quite picky about cheese. I couldn't stand goats' cheese (what was I on? ) and I absolutely loathed the soft and smelly French cheeses like Vieux Pane.

Now, I have seen the light and I don't think there is a single one I don't like.

Faves: Cantal, fromage de brebis, bleu de Bresse, mimoulette.

Mmmm cheese!

I’m told the best place for halloumi in London is a greengrocers in Arnos Grove which I haven’t got round to visiting yet but now has mythical Willy Wonka style halloumi visions in the part of my brain that deals with cheese.

There's a Cheese Deli on Northfields Avenue, went there recently and got an extra mature cheddar called Black Bomber... best cheese I've had in recent memory.

Black Bomber is superb. Definite fave. But if you like that, try 2 others.....

Godminster & Red Storm. Luverly.
