Breaks my heart walking past all those shiny new horse chestnuts just lying in the gutter or on the path. When I were a lad, we'd risk life and limb standing in the road throwing sticks up at them. Never baked them nor put them in vinegar. How the youth of today is missing out albeit they're probably preserving their eyesight and not getting run over or hit by a stray branch!!

I am sure A and E in the past had many kids there with conker injuries such as injured hands due to people with poor aim at the time.

If anyone ever wen to A&E because they were hit on the paw playing Conkers, they should have had a rather stern word with themselves.

What next, a insurance claim for injuries sustained in a thumb war?

It seems rare nowadays to see a healthy Horse Chestnut tree with green foliage in summer and big conkers around now.

Leaf Miner Moth, Leaf Blight and Bleeding Canker all seem to be taking their toll.

Especially if it's a half inflated orange woolworths football. Back of the ear mid winter was a killer.

The best street football, you could repair a puncture with a hot knife if you got it back after smashing someone window.
