Referee decision views 08:43 - Oct 7 with 1698 viewskingo

My u18s were playing yesterday and the ball is played across the penalty area and hits a player on the hand, he takes a touch and scores. The ref tells me he saw the handball but didn’t think it was deliberate. Should the goal have stood?

I thought the new rules that came in meant this should not have stood.

Well that was my view but the referee was adamant that in his opinion it was not deliberate handball. My reading was that it didn’t matter whether it was deliberate or not.

You're right and referee was wrong.

ANY touch that leads to a goal or goalscoring opportunity should be given as handball.

Note that this (evidently) only applies to attackers, defenders can still gain an advantage from a non deliberate handball and not be penalised.

I'm sorry to say that at grassroots not all referees are up to date with the laws this season - pretty poor considering how many changes there have been for 2019/20.

Thank you. I thought I was right.
