Time wasting antics 12:45 - Oct 21 with 1202 viewsenfieldargh

Yes I know all clubs do it but it seems once a penalty has been awarded its open season on referees to be harangued by players, especially the goalkeepers.

We saw at Reading last season most of Reading's players getting in the face of the ref and the penalty taker. Grabbing the ball and not letting it go.

Saturday the keeper took the ball refused to hand it over and when he eventually had it wrestled from him tried to get it back.

Easy solution, once a penalty has been awarded the ball should be handed to the ref and all the players must vacate the penalty area within 30 seconds and the keeper must not leaves his 6 yard box.

Any breach of this is an auto yellow card.

The ref then calls forward the penalty taker.

no doubt a defender will go down with concussion in the box thus rendering my efficient plan redundant.

Saturday Hull especially Long took the pi$$

I agree with the idea, but enforcing it would be a different matter.Regarding Saturdays penalties, would the ref have had the balls to make Eze take the kick again if the keeper saved it?He took so long to kick it that there were several players encroaching in the box, including our own.And so much for the keeper not moving off his line.

When did the rules change to allow a player to stop on the run up the way Eze did on Saturday?I know Aldridge used to do it in the 80’s,and I thought they’d stopped it happening.

Didn't think he actually stopped more slowed his pace considerably. But then I am biased.

Answered that on another thread.

Feinting during the run up IS allowed, you can't 'feint' once run up is 'completed'

Both pens looked perfectly OK to me. At this level, without VAR, and whether you agree or not, the fact is refs will rarely get involved with encroachment, GK movement and never seen a 'run up' penalised.

I like the idea above of having a set time - that's what happens at penalty corners in hockey, but the ref DOES have the power to stop it now - its pretty blatantly 'delaying the restart of play' - which is of course is a yellow card offence.

They should just issue yellow cards after the game for stuff like this and harassing the referee.

If a team doing this got another 5-6 yellows per game and the suspensions mounted up then they would soon stop doing it.

Clubs DO get fined for 5 or more yellows in a game and can be charged if they 'surround' the referee.

We got done for that in the PL - how you surround someone with 3 players though is beyond me!

Think it Mike Dean v Man City after the Joe Hart 'double touch'

Ref/AR was correct then though tbf.

Yes but they don't add extra yellows after the game. It might help the referees because none are going to issue 5 yellows for one incident of crowding in the game.

But if it was done across the board after the game then it would take the pressure off the referees.

I thought the referee was very lenient with the cards over that first penalty. Not sure how Lichaj didn't even get booked for hauling Eze down as he's about to shoot - never a genuine attempt for the ball, just a desperate rugby tackle. Then the keeper was allowed to hang onto the ball and start a scrap, that's an obvious yellow surely?

Rugby league it's an automatic sin binning for delaying the restart, so nobody does it. Simples.

Agree.
Thought the defender may have been sent off as he was the 'last man' . There should have been a booking too for the scything tackle on Eze near the deadball line and just before the 2nd penalty was given. How Eze rode that one is only known to himself.

It's not a sending off now if it's a genuine attempt for the ball, but I'm not sure how that was.

He was behind Eze so I agree it can’t really be a genuine attempt at getting the ball, but it should’ve been at least a yellow card.If the keeper had saved the pen or if he’d missed the target, they’d have got off Scot free, which can’t be right.

Just watched the 90' back - its a lot easier to judge added time that way!

The head injury took 4 mins, the triple sub 1 min, so did the double sub.

Hull made a sub after 1st pen given and Toni went down for a bit under a min.

1st penalty took 4 mins from foul to kick off again, 2nd took 2. Now refs never add all that on, but 4 + 1 + 1 + 1 for Toni and another 1 for sub during 1st pen & you can see 8 was OK.

Both Ebere and Ryan went down during the 8 added, so another 2 1/2 seemed about right.

Both challenges for the pens could easily have been yellows as could tug back on Eze in the first. The challenge on Ryan was an orange but can see why he went yellow rather than red.

seems about right to me so fair play to the ref for that.

How many times thought have we seen almost as much as that for the bog standard 4 to be added on.

So with Burkes suspected concussion I watched the physio given him treatment which ended with him moving a finger side to side before allowing the player back on his feet.

So question is, if he did suffer a concussion would they not have allowed him to stand up and would they not have allowed him to move the 2 metres off the pitch?

dont like to see players suffer head or any injuries but with so much gamesmanship rife in the game I find it hard to believe some of these injuries.

Well, if you're saying all that extra time was right fair enough.

Almost every game ever played has had that amount of stoppages, though, and i've never seen that amount of time in any other game. You shouldn't be saying the ref was correct, but asking why are the refs blatantly wrong in every other match? We all know the amount of extra time is virtually identical in 90 percent of matches, irrespective of what happens on the pitch. If that was a premier league game and we were playing Liverpool or something and ahead by one goal, i'd have been apoplectic.

Re the Injury to the Hull player, Leistner damn near killed the guy. I was very surprised they let him continue in this day and age with the concussion protocol nowadays.

I've just watched the full 90 mins as well. That assault on Manning - by Bowler I think - was a red card all day long these days. Foot massively high, not attempting to get the ball.

Indeed. Compare Barbet against West Brom to that.
