Plenty of negitivity, some of it well overboard but understandable so.......

lets talk LEE WALLACE.

I like him, decent footballer, strong hard, typical Jock, plays with his heart on his sleeve, leader, wants to win.

Thought the sending off was 50-50, some refs would have given a yellow, I think he is a good steady player, could do with a couple more at the back like him.

Agree, some refs would red and others would yellow...it was a foul, the question is whether Hall would have got there to get a tackle in - maybe he would and maybe he wouldn't. He would have made it if his positioning was better or he read the situation instead of watching.

Suspect the ref thought to himself, this defence is so fckin slow there's zero possibility anyone could have caught up with him.

Ya, I like Wallace as well. He's been doing well for us.

My first reaction was that the red card was a joke as Hall was covering, but then I remembered that I no longer seem to know all the rules of football... maybe there's been a rule change.

"A player, sent-off player, substitute or substituted player who enters the field of play without the required referee's permission and interferes with play or an opponent and denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity is guilty of a sending-off offence

The following must be considered:
distance between the offence and the goal
general direction of the play
likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
location and number of defenders."

Is the above the current rule?

Maybe Pinner could help?

Looks like another Bidwell to me. Slow, OK at the back, OK at best going forwards, poor positioning (albeit playing in a more central role so will forgive him for that). Nothing special at all from what I've seen, and the sending off was stupid. I thought it was a definite red but can see how others may not.

The red card was harsh BUT there's no excuse for the 3 goals second half.

Yep that's right Brian.

Problem is even the offy says Wallace was sent off for a 'last man foul'

Utter drivel. As you have shown there, 'last man' not mentioned in the law, only that it has to be an obvious goalscoring opportunity - just because there is another defender somewhere in the vague vicinity doesn't negate the 'obvious' part. Thought on the night it was a red but haven't seen it back yet.

Thanks, Paul.

To be fair, then, I would say that it was a red.

It was an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Maybe not a great opportunity (and that's the problem with the wording - after all, every time a team crosses the half-way line it's an obvious goalscoring opportunity) but regardless of Hall being present to cover it was an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Goddammittohell!

Just seen it again and when the foul was made Hall was about behind them both, that's a red.

As someone said on another thread, the 4th goal was offside - wasn't even close, not sure how the AR missed that one - doesn't matter I know but a shocking decision that one!

On the fourth am I right that both Forest players were ok as the ball came off Lumley to them, except for the fact that one of them may have unsighted and/or distracted Lumley which in itself makes it an offside?

No

The first player is offside twice IMHO!

First he is standing offside as the ball passes very close to him and in Lumley's vision and secondly 'he gains an advantage' by being in that position when ball rebounds to him - so that's offside as well!

2nd player who scores is onside because he has the ball between him and the goal line when it is passed to him.

Hope that helps with your next offside decision

Ok, now I'm rightly confused! :)

In a recent Barca match, Barca had a corner it rebounded off a Leganes player goalwards to Arturo Vidal who was standing in an offside position. He scored and it counted as it came off a Leganes player.

Isn't that the same as with Lumley last night?

I'd have to see the one you mentioned as doesn't sound right.

You can't be played onside by a deflection only by the oppo deliberately playing the ball.

Last night he was standing offside when the shot was taken - that's the key part - he is NOT played onside by the ball coming back to him - doesn't matter if its the post or Lumley he has gained an advantage by being in that position.

Just had a thought on the one you saw - before the player scored - was the last touch by a team mate from the player who took the corner? If so that's why it was onside - you can't be offside from a corner.

A Grant Hall thread would be more appropriate imho - still making a smattering of good decisions based on muscle memory and experience but otherwise not really at the races this season. Hall was always to.my mind a good passer of the ball but can't even take the Pivot/Fulcrum/Sweet Jesus ball passer position off Tone who was on Warb's not rated list for most of the summer.

Wallace seems like an experienced pro who works hard at trying to keep our glacial defence middle three in some sort of order. Not long back but doing fine far as I can see. Looked a bit harsh yesterday but when your keeper's that far off form you're more likely to doubt he'll save it and make rash decisions.

I thought he was our best player last night, as much for his leadership than particularly good play. Always communicating and looking to find a pass from defence. We collapsed following his red.
