We really needed Pugh to be a major signing but he's just never got going. I'd describe him as 'low energy' so far. He doesn't look like he's got the stomach for the scrap, maybe his legs have gone.

completely agree - he's been lightweight and hasn't demonstrated in any way apart from by default rotation why he should nick a start.
comes across as such a nice bloke - but from his social media interests it's clear to see he's not getting enough protein in that allows him to be explosive enough.
Hope he proves me wrong - also caveat being I'm sure he's a very positive influence on our younger players - but then we're not employing him as a player to be a motivational speaker! |  | | |

I think we probably expected more from Pugh, but whether you can lay the blame at the feet of Pugh i'm not so sure.
The bare facts read that he's started twice this season (Wigan in August and Derby on Saturday) he's come off the bench a further 10 times, invariably in the last 20 or so minutes, and asked to change or chase the game. his start against Derby on the Weekend was his first football of any sort since the 2nd November when he came off the bench in the 63rd Minute vs Leeds, and before that the 22nd October when he came off the bench in the 77th minute vs Reading.
he's undoubtedly a talented player, the Bournemouth fans universally rave about him, but we started with Chair/Eze/BOS/Hugill/Wells as our preferred attacking options in rotation so he hasn't had much of a chance so far.
I liked the balance of BOS/Pugh/Eze behind Huggy Bear on sat, it would be nice to see them keep that with Chair looking at a spell on the bench, and see if he can produce... |  |

We've hardly seen any of him, but early in the season i thought his sub appearances were encouraging.

I'm guessing you're being sarcastic Antti - you know I love to hastily write off a player.
On that note - yeah, Chair - want want want him to be really good but I'm seeing less and less evidence he has what it takes at this level. He plays with his head down far too much and that means he often holds onto the ball for too long and runs into blind alleys.
He looks at his best when he's playing it quick and simple.
I'd personally move him back into centre mid, think he's got the engine for it and it'd suit his style. | |

I think when they were signed the plan for both Pugh and Wallace was to be first choice in their positions but Chair and Manning respectively have played well enough to date to hold onto their spots and have lots more sell on value - and let's face it that's the business we are in now. However I think Chair has had a good run during which he has shown his importance but maybe needs a couple of games to regroup and maybe see what he can learn by observing from the sidelines for a couple of games - Pugh would be a good role model to look at in that regard |  | | |

I see your point about Chair playing with his head down at times, Westy.
I think it might be only of late, though, as the team's confidence and flow has ebbed a bit. So hopefully he'll get his head up again when his form picks up again.
Also, worth remembering that Freeman didn't learn to pick his head up until much older, so this could be a developmental thing as well. |  |

Agree with all that Jeff, thought he showed some potential for the team on Saturday. The only change to the lineup I would like to see against Preston, is maybe put Wallace in his real position and give Manning a rest on the bench. | | | |

funny though isn't it - of all our players, he seems to me to be the one who can spot a pass, almost the exact opposite of you! I think he's a lovely player - easily fine for this level, but there will be ups and downs. Agree centre mid might be best for him. | |

I thought Chair looked extremely good at the start of the season. The harsh realities of game after game, and often loss after loss, has probably hit him quite hard. He looks like a goal could make him burst to the next level.
You're absolutely right - he can play a nice pass. I think he needs to make that the main thrust of his game along with his engine. He's not got loads of tricks on the locker like Freeman so he'd be well advised to move the ball on quicker.
The one thing he had lots of at Stevenage was goals and if he could start scoring them at this level then it's make him an entirely different proposition. Then he would really be something. | |

I expect he will get that now as MW's team selection becomes a little more pragmatic as he goes for more experience in an attempt to get some points on the board after a poor run. I also thought Amos did well (aside from giving away the daft free kick for the goal). He looks a potential quality player, but has obviously been hindered by injuries and I would like to see him given a run as well. |  | | |
