This deserves a like for the sheer poetry of the descriptions!

One thing, I'm assuming everyone agrees that beer tastes much better out of a bottle than a can?

I'd say on a general level that lager stays far fresher kept in its bottle, especially when its hot, but that an ale needs to swish around a bit to let the flavours out; but clearly I am no expert.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

a can warms up quicker as metal is a faster conductor of heat than a bottle, therefore the contents would also get warmer quicker. So for lagers and other beers that are best drunk cold, then a bottle makes more sense.

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Gambrinus: The no1 Pilsner in Czech. and they know a thing or two about Pilsners in Plzen. You cant get it here though, so had it personally imported by my in-laws.

Available from this shop in East Sheen apparently. I'll get my eldest son to buy some for me when he's passing.

Loved that when I first found it in old Czecho nearly 30 years ago; always wanted to find it in the UK to see if it's as good as I remember. Good to hear it's still on form even if I can't get any.

Normally I'm an ale man - there's a great little brewery here in Stroud - but I like to go Belgian Lambic at Christmas to make it feel different.

Anything Polish

Can't agree with that.

I tried Brasso once and it did get me p*ssed but it tasted rank.

1 Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel
Malty, banana, liquid pudding but in no way heavy. Special.

2 Augustiner Hell
Beautiful, silky smooth, crisp. The best Hells/Helles beer.

3 Lowenbrau
Lovely... sigh

4 Caesar Augustus
Brewed in Scotland & freely available in Scottish supermarkets, a lager/IPA hybrid, hoppy, crisp.

5 Pilsner Urquell
Nice - and very near the lovely draught version in the Czech Republic.

Luckily enough, there is a really great beer shop in Glasgow that stock literally everything - including all of the above.

Baltika, always. No. 7 my favourite, don't try No. 9 unless you are a seasoned pro. It will hurt you.

This is correct. Cans significantly reduce the risk of the beer being lightstruck, which can lead to a "skunky" taste.

Clear and green bottles have the biggest risk of this, brown bottles are much better, cans (and draft beer as long as it's stored properly) there is minimal to no risk.

Has no one mentioned Goose Island IPA ? Maybe I missed it.
Life and Death west coast IPA is great. Brewed by Vocation in Hebden Bridge !!
Try it, you’ll thank me.

P.s. give it some time in the fridge to settle.

I'll buy some Peroni - 24 x 330ml bottles cost around $40 Aussie dollars (20 pounds)

Just find Peroni tastes nice and I don't get a headache the next day

oh wo! your a star for finding that.

Radegast is OK, Kozel (which means goat btw) isn't too bad either (my in-laws' neighbor is the chief of the fire bridge in the village they live and he usually thrusts it into my hand when im over), but Gambrinus is easily the best

Someone did earlier on and I agreed but pointed out that they seem to be a quid a bottle more than other beers.

English: Newcastle Brown Ale. Obviously, there are loads of great ales in England. Theakston's Old Peculier is another with loads of flavor.

Belgium: Nocturne Deliroius is my favourite, although there are plenty of other good 'uns.

I don't know the beer, but that's cracking value, £25 for 12x500ml.

Not sure about this one, though.

I'm getting a coppery tang, and notes of old man's trousers.

I'm guessing it pays to buy a few crates for the postage as 5kg-50kg is the same price.

Ah yes, says £16 for 5-30kg to London.

As my world has got smaller in lockdown, I'm pleased to be able to get beer from a two minute walk to our local Tesco Metro. Not very noble, but there's some lovely stuff close at hand (until 11pm!).

Magic Rock Dark Arts Surreal Stout, 6%. The right side of bitter, not the wrong side of sweet. Dangerously enjoyable at £5 for 3.

Northern Monk Faith, £5.80 for 4. The official beer of The Last Kingdom. Me and Master Sheen clank glasses every time someone raises a horn cup and roars.
