Amazing how eloquent US athletes are. I watch a lot of baseball and they generally speak clearly, freely and with character.

In Britain, and in Ireland, our athletes are afraid to leave the clichés behind and can end up tongue-tied as a result.

This is usually down to the draft process in American sports.

Most athletes will be drafted from college so ultimately even if they don't make a career in their desired sport they will come out of it with an education. It's a model I very much admire and it results in sportsmen who can articulate and answer questions properly instead of morons like Jesse Lingard running around shouting 'beans'.

I think there's something in that, Flitwick, definitely.

But it can't be the only reason. Most of my Parents' generation spent far fewer years in education that my generation, yet they're far more eloquent than the generations that followed them.

Have spoken with Cameron on a couple of occasions and he has a huge, very positive personality.

An important influence both on the pitch, and generally around the club.

Careful, you're not suggesting that the standard of education has dropped in the last forty years or so??

But yeah, Geoff. Geoff is awesome.

Interesting to hear the perspectives on American athletes. We in the US have so many problems with college athletics with some athletes not really there for the education and the college basketball "one year and done" concept for top athletes, not to mention college coaches making millions while the athletes and their families struggle economically. Now colleges will start to compensate some athletes for use of their name on athletic gear sales, etc. There is part of me that admires how other nations don't bother with that and put youth straight into sport. US baseball is kind of like that and some of our soccer players go that route as well, but Cameron played college before turning pro. Cameron is a thoughtful guy and it is great for me to see him contribute for QPR.

Canadian NHL players are an exception I'm sorry to say. Most don't go through the US college system. They're drafted out of junior hockey, where they spend most of their mid-teens bussing from small town to small town. They aren't any more articulate than your average English footballer. It's changing slowly, but compared to European players or US players who've been through the NCAA, it's kind of embarrassing.
