As an 8 year-old, the Cup Final season is my first real football memory... Almost 40 years later I can still repeat the Match of the Day commentary when the goal went in off his knee and take great pride when, with about 10 minutes remaining, there is a chant of "Rangers..." and Motson says "and the Rangers fans are really roaring them home" and I am still convinced to this day that me, my Dad and his two brothers started that chant....
Who knows what would have been if he hadn't got injured so early in the Cup Final (or if the goal in the replay wouldn't have been ruled out for a phantom offside).
Of course the interview reminded me of some other aspects of football in the 80s - when CA scored the winner against Palace in the cup and then celebrated in front of their fans and at the end the Palace supporters invaded the pitch and started charging towards us in Ellerslie Road I was scared out of my wits... |  | | |

Great article thanks for posting.He mentioned that QPR brought in Gary Banister before he went to Spurs to replace him .They both scored so many incredible goals for us and were part of some great teams and so much success who was better..I know how much QPR fans love Allen for that FA cup semi final winner but I suspect Bannister gets a lot of votes also | | | |

Then I remember jumping up and down with my grandad when Fenwick powered in that header! I cried when we lost the replay...
