Seatbelt cameras 16:41 - Dec 19 with 4410 viewsplasmahoop

Apologies for being off topic, but I got called into the office at work today, as whilst driving a company vehicle I was spotted driving without a seatbelt. Apparently I was driving said vehicle that day, and I usually wear one, but I concede I may not have been wearing it. So I filled in the form and took my ticking off. But it occurs to me now, do they not need provide evidence for this? Have they got some ultra good cameras now? When I was called in the manager said I'm sure you know what this is about, but I genuinely didn't. It's a hundred quid, not the end of the world, learn your lesson. But isn't the burden of proof on them? Thanks, and sorry for rambling on

I wear mine 99% of the time in my truck and always in the car.You can’t get away with anything these days.
Although driving at night like I do,it would be a good camera to see in my cab at night. There are too many cameras everywhere these days, and it’s getting harder to watch for them as well as the antics of some other road users.
I’m near the end of my days on the road as I just can’t see much point in doing it any longer.I feel sorry for anyone just starting out life as a so called professional driver.Although we are only treated like professionals when something goes wrong. The rest of the time we’re treated worse than sh@t.
Happy Christmas all.

I can beat that, our vans are now tracked, they know our speeds, how hard we brake, how fast we corner. Some of our drivers have been called in because they are continually speeding, I got called in yesterday to let me know that on one yes one occasion I was doing 22.4 for longer than 30 seconds in a 20 zone, probably forgot to set my limiter briefly. Bet the old bill wouldn’t have pulled me for that.

Thanks for your reply. You are probably right, you can't get away with anything these days. I do concur though, I drive a dustcart, although on the day in question I was driving a smaller vehicle. Loads of people seem to get suspended every time they have a minor accident, which when you consider the how long you are out there and how much manoeuvreing you do seems a bit harsh. Would like to do something else, but not sure what!
I just wish I'd questioned the evidence a it more before filling in the form, but it was after a long day

I'm a postie and even we're tracked now. If I stop for longer than five minutes it shows up as a big yellow blob on my route map.

I have a few older people on my round who like to have a chat, but I'm finding myself having to make my apologies now and cut the conversation short.

They probably think I'm a right rude fecker

The company i work for at the moment have whats called a cost tracker. Basically GPS that i have to sign in and out when a turn up to site and go home again. Its just a tracking device. Hate it. Plus where im working at the moment has bad signal so i can never sign in properly which makes me look like im getting to site later than i am. Cue accounts questioning my invoice.

Occasional providers of half decent House music.

I have a RING door bell camera/live video chat thingy.

Our postie refused to use it as he doesnt want to be on camera.

I've told him hes on camera the moment he steps foot on my drive way and that he's on camera virtually his whole route.

He still wont ring the bell and knocks the knocker like a feeble child before legging it up my drive way.

Have called him back loads of times, taken this up woth him and he says if affects his civil rights

captains fantastic

We have trackers too and telematics boxes. But the difference is that if you’re a good boy or girl they pay you £10 a night for the pleasure.
It’s normally the harsh braking at quickly changing traffic lights that ruin it for most drivers. It takes a lot to stop 44t travelling at 30mph because the lights suddenly change to red 50 yards away from them.

My father was a lorry driver and chauffer. He retired just as modern technology was tightening its grip on motoring. He would never do the job today as there's too much monitoring and, armed with databases, authorities just fine and ask questions later.

On one occasion he had an overnight stay in Suffolk. He parked his company car on a road which was signposted as pedestrian only between the hours of 9am and 4pm. The following morning he left the hotel at 8.15am to be greeted with a PCN. Worse still barriers had been lifted at both ends of the street, preventing him from leaving and making him late to pick up a client. At the end of the month his payslip was £120 light. When he confronted his boss he was told that the firm had received a fine in the post so it was automatically deducted from his wages. His boss refused to appeal so my father had to take it up with Suffolk police personally. They explained that he had been fined for parking in a street that is pedestrianised between the hours of 8 and 5. Fortunately he had taken some photographs at the scene so he submitted an appeal which was upheld. However Suffolk police attached a letter saying that it was a one-time gesture because although the road signs stated 9 to 4, the new hours were in force, the council just hadn't got around to changing the signs! As my father was now aware of these new hours he was expected to conform with them in future regardless of what the road signs state! As soon as my father received his £120 back he moved to another firm making his reasons for leaving very clear.

Anyway, moral of a long story is don't just accept it, appeal.

Glad I left the Royal Mail when it got privatised. We had a fleet manager who would literally come out and spy on you doing your deliveries. I got told off once for not wearing a high vis jacket on top of my uniform when it was about 30 degrees and bright sunshine. But I think most similar jobs have similar working conditions these days. My mate is temproarily working in an Amazon warehouse and that is literally like a Big Brother Orwelian enviroment. His every move is monitored.
