Perfect.

Including the rallying call at the end. Now is not the time for panic.

"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."

Agree with all of this. Hope people are listening out there.

Articulate, analytical and persuasive as ever. But do we feel Warburton, his coaching team and the players have what it takes to address this side's serious defensive failings?

Interesting point about choosing ends. Do we know for sure that Rangers won the toss? If they did then surely choosing to play with the wind at their backs in the first half would have been the right (and only) call. If we had the choice of ends and chose to play into the howling wind in the first half then whoever made that decision needs to have such decisions taken out of their hands for good.

We were awful first half yesterday but second half was a lot better, chatted to a Brentford mate after the game, he thought that was the best we've played against them at Griffin Park in the last few years and that if Eze had scored the 2nd it would have been panic stations, I'm more of the opinion they'd have stepped up and scored again but overall we are heading in the right direction just need to sort that bloody defence out.

As I say in the report, they're well aware, they tried to address it in the summer, they couldn't get the man they wanted. If we stick with him, give him another summer, it will be addressed. They're not idiots, they know, but it's difficult to make rapid changes in the era of transfer windows. If you think Warburton is looking at this defence thinking it's fine and good enough then you're wrong.

I don't think I said he was and/or he is, did I, Clive? But if people think one half-decent centre back is going to magically reverse our worst-in-the-Championship 'defensive' record (bar Barnsley), they're living in lala land. The goalkeeping fiasco, the inability to mark/track runners, the ballwatching, the cheap concessions of free kicks, are endemic, and our whole catalogue of sins was again in evidence in that nightmarish first half at Brentford.

This needs to be addressed by Warburton and his staff on the training ground, not by buying our way of trouble with money the man himself (using the well-rehearsed Les/Hoos script) tells us (we know, we know!) we don't have. Meanwhile, the manager's increasingly monotonous post-match mantras of 'winning and losing together' etc. (to the point that he's even started to acknowledge hs's repeating himself) rather than making tangible improvements, does drain my confidence the longer it goes on.

At the moment, that said, if you lined up Lumley, Kane, Hall, Cameron and Manning (I'd better not say against a wall), would we have faith in any of them?

Much as the defence needs sorting a lot of the issues arguably stem from the goalkeeper - MW's persistence with Lumley is admirable but given he signed Kelly (who admittedly has been injured), I would have expected him to play more. Given last Saturday, I'd be quite amazed if Kelly wasn't starting for the Leeds game.

Unlike the team Clive the usual consistency in your game.

On the success of Brentford by sticking to 'one theme', how did they get to that in the first place. Presumably they went through some of the same stuff that we have been through, in the days since we left the promised land. Anyone remember/know the story of how they got to the Rossler years?

The other question I have is, how do you react quickly enough when a player moves before you at a set piece? You know it's going to happen but not when or even where he might run. On this occasion, it was even stranger as Wells seemed to react and then hesitated and then couldn't get there. I don't think it is the first time he has been beaten to a ball in a similar position and it absolutely is/should/must be part of his game as we routinely bring everyone back for set pieces except our quickest player. As MW continually reminds us 'we defend as a team'

Although winning the toss now means you get to choose to kick off OR choose ends, that still means, as previously, whoever kicks off 2nd half has chosen ends.

Thanks. So we chose ends and decided to kick into the strong wind in the first half. No logic in that decision whatsoever.

I believe there’s a lot in expectations of both clubs we have come from playing in the lower leagues for the best part of the last 40 years whereas you have been in the top division from time to time over these years. The last 4 seasons of us being in this division we have finished ahead of you by 3 or 4 wins that’s all so it’s hardly a massive gulf.

I think that is a sensible point. The fact is Brentford are a better side than us right now. They have been deploying sensible player and recruitment strategies for a number of years and are reaping the rewards of that. We are now on a similar journey (hopefully)but are clearly are some way behind. The early signs from that vey promising but it will take time and it will need patience and there will be frustration along the way..

Personally I have no axe to grind with Brentford at all. Always struck me as a friendly enough, well run club and if they get their chance in the Premier League good luck to them.

"we have come from playing in the lower leagues for the best part of the last 40 years whereas you have been in the top division from time to time over these years"

???

I think you need to check your facts mate. From 1973-1996 we were in the first division as then was for 19 out of 23 seasons in two spells.

Correct I should have said most of the time.
