ULEZ zone are you registered?

Living approx 100 miles from our spiritual home, Mrs FB and me drive to matches and sometimes to other events in London but usually outside the current ULEZ/congestion charge zone.

My elder daughter has just move to a flat share in East London and works for a hotel company. She had booked a room for us, at a family rate, near Kensington Gardens. So after the last home game we drove to the accommodation, my wife checked in while I sat in the car and we then drove across London to the Docklands area.

Last year, I found out that the Mayor is planning to extend the ULEZ zone out to the North and South Circular Roads, I thought this year but apparently it is next year 2021. This was one of the factors in making me decide to change my car. So I part exchanged my 2012 diesel, which I knew wouldn't comply, for a 2016 model that I checked would.

Yesterday, opening the mail I found a ULEZ penalty notice with a 'fine' of £88. It said my vehicle was non compliant. I entered my reg into the TFL site and it agreed with the letter. So a couple of hours research followed with me finding out all the emissions data for my vehicle and then trying to find out what the level/ standards are for meeting the ULEZ requirements. Not an easy task as my V5 gives the actual levels but doesn't mention 'Euro 6', the ULEZ standard and when I looked it up on the DVLA site it said not available. The TFL site just mentions 'Euro 6'.

Mrs FB bought me a registration plate with URS on it for my birthday a few years ago which I had transferred onto my replacement vehicle last year. She decided to enter the original registration into the DVLA site and lo and behold my vehicle complies!

So it seems that even though the records are up to date at the DVLA they are not at TFL.

So I have submitted my appeal and wait to hear.

Cheers, yeah definitely worth checking.

We have a 2013 Kia Sportage, thankfully it complies!

We've debated changing it but Mrs Chef is quite happy with it for now, although I suppose the time will come when diesel is completely phased out. Probably end up moving to a hybrid which is what I use for my work commute.

I bought a 2L Nissan Navara pick up truck, which is Euro 6 compliant.
Takes up almost two parking spaces and does 28mpg
Feck 'em!

If you end up going to an appeal hearing have your car VIN number with you, don't just rely on plate reg's.
Also any documentation on the plate transfer.

Apart from the fact it was falling apart, I recently had to change motorbikes as my 2001 VFR800 was not ULEZ compliant. Not a problem for now as I don't go into the zone but when it spreads out to the north/south circular in October 2021 that will cover 2/3 of my commute.

My new (2017) bike is compliant and basically runs on air. The VFR was lucky to get 30mpg in town and 45mpg in the 'burbs whereas my new bike gets 50mpg in town and anywhere between 75-100mpg in the burbs (ave. 65mpg).

October 2021 is going to basically wipe out the value of anyone in/around London who has a vehicle that's not compliant. Sell now.

Or drive an Electric Car - not a hybrid, a proper BEV

No worries about London congestion charges or ULEZ.

Charge your car at home for 5p per kw at night and drive for 'peanuts' fuel cost . 8000 miles per year for approx £100 in electricity costs assuming you charge at home using Octopus Go tariff

How does that work if you're on the 10th floor or any floor above the ground floor.

Or if there is only one change bay at the bottom of a block.

My house is 200m inside the South Circular ULEZ. I very rarely drive anywhere in London, but I need the car to commute to Suffolk for work once a week. Really p****d off with this. I bought a diesel 4x4 because (a) I got snowed-in a couple of times in Suffolk, and (b) we were told that diesels emitted less CO2 over their lifetimes - which is still true. Next year that car will be unusable and worthless. Scrapping it will just add further pollution and "carbon" to the environment.
