Just discovered that there is a team from Madrid playing in the Spanish Third Division called Flat Earth FC.

New owner changed the club name last year as he is proponent of the flat earth theory. Let's hope he doesn't try to take over a club in the EFL as he's bound to pass the FPP test.

As a kid, I couldn't get my head around port vale. Nothing strange in the name except it's in the middle of the country

Poll: Why are you a QPR supporter?

Most of us that have a club are fairly decent with our islands’ geography. I genuinely only found out yesterday that Wigan is inland - I fell for the pier thing. Honestly thought the place was coastal.

We had a 5/6 aside tournament team in Northolt named Curly Wedge United.

Crouch End Vampires, one of the oldest teams in London.

Used to come up against them frequently in the old London Senior Cup

We used to play against a South London team called 279. The hip hop DJ, DJ 279 named himself after them.

First game I ever played, aged about 6, was against a team called TNT, which I remember finding hilarious. Second game was versus Corinthian Casuals, also sounded like a walk in the park - turns out they were pretty serious and I think we lost 16-0

What cûnt decided to call a football team Chel***? Nowhere near any sea whatsoever. North Battersea Racist Cûnts has a much nicer ring to it.

As someone who was born in Battersea can I strongly object to any connection between them c@nts And Battersea.
Can’t we just call them East Fulham?

BSC Young Boys
Newell's Old Boys

Was concerned what might appear when searching the first club online and the latter's acronym!

I wonder if they have women's teams?

I always thought that Grasshoppers was a funny name for a football team.

Very good Baz, they're a bit confused and have stolen Eriskays ground!
They're exactly what they say they are!

My grandfather was born not far from the border of this area, swore he wouldn't drink from their well...

Edit
This is the actual pitch in Tw4tt, home of Sandwick FC who now only compete in the Parish Cup at a different pitch.

Edit Edit
Jeez, the name is hard work on the swear filter.
Substitute the 4 for an 'a' in the address. It's not really worth it tbh!

I always used to love finding the obscure, or bizarre, team names on Football Manager

There is Jamie Vardy's first team, Stocksbridge Park Steels (a PE teacher of mine played for them in the 70s too)

Prescot Cables, Karl Connolly played for them after leaving us, no idea where they're based, up north somewhere.

Wellingborough Whitworth's from my home town - originally a factory team, hence the name.

Forres Mechanics in Scotland. Also a Dundee Violet. Not sure if either of them exist any more but they used to.

And for old factory/union sides, Harrogate Railway Athletic, and I believe now defunct Leigh Railway Mechanics Institute.

Then there was/is Institute in Northern Ireland. Not sure where that came from.

I find all the quirky names interesting!

Corinthian Casuals are a merger of two historic amateur clubs. Corinthian toured the world at the beginning of the 20th Century. Real Madrid wear white shirts in their honour and they inspired the Corinthians club of São Paulo. There’s an entertaining documentary about amateur players from the side of the A3 going to play a centenary friendly in front of 50,000 fans in São Paulo and their Portuguese Twitter account has hundreds of thousands of followers.
